I found a decent looking herters 458 win mag for what seems like a decent price. but ive never heard of this brand and my research has turned up mixed reviews. some say they are cheap and unreliable while others say they are decent rifles.

what re your thoughts on these rifles?

thanks

As far as I know, Herters sold barreled actions or complete rifles made with actions from either BSA, FN, Zastave, or Santa Barbara. Barrels were Douglas.

It seems quality varied quite a lot !

That .458 doesn't happen to have a birdseye maple stock, does it?

My brother and I worked at the Herter's store in Eau Claire back in the early 80s when we were in college.

A Herter's in 458 with a nice birdseye maple stock came in from one of the other stores, and we scarfed it up like kittens on a bowl of milk.

I think he sold it to pay for an engagement ring! He is still married to the good woman, but I know he still regrets selling that rifle to this day!

trperk1, I bought the Kimber Caprivi 375 back in an earlier post. You attached a target with an impressive three rounds touching 100 yards. I took the 2x10 VX5 off and put a VX6 HD Gen 2 1x6x24 Duplex Firedot on the rifle. It's definitely a shooter curious what loads you used for the group. Loving this rifle so fun to shoot. Africa 2026 Mozambique. Buff and PG. Any info appreciated.

Hello:
I’ll take the .375 Whitworth for $1,150 if the deal falls through.
Thanks .
