Hello I’m new to the board and have a quick question about .460 ammo

Anyone know where I can get .460 ammo and at a reasonable price? Thanks.

If you dont reload, you're looking at $150-$180/box shipped, when it pops up. That seems to be reasonable of late. GB has had some sell, GI as well.

Welcome aboard Edward1970. Sorry to say all large bore ammo is scarce. The odds of finding it at 'reasonable" prices is all but zilch. Do you have a hunt planned for the near future?

Planning for the future , I’ve always wanted to hunt Cape buffalo . It’s strange that .460 ammo is scarce because it’s such a rare caliber that is not really desirable because it’s a specialized gun that many people don’t really have or use. I can see 30/30, 9mm, .357, 30-06, .380 , 38 , 12 gauge and etc. being hard to find and expensive, but the .460 prices blow my mind and can’t believe so hard to find. Who’s using it?? Here in the US most gun enthusiasts don’t even know what a .460 Weatherby is.

Why is large bore ammo so scarce?

Your best bet is probably to ask if another AH member has a box or two that he can spare. We try to help each other when we can.

Re your question why is ammo so scarce, the answer is simple "Supply and Demand," the ammo manufacturers are working 24/7 producing more than they ever have. Biden's recent edicts prohibiting the importation of Russian Ammo is going to make it worse. Reloading components are equally hard to find.

I get the part about supply and demand, but there shouldn’t be a demand for .460 ammo right? And I will ask if any members have any thanks. I went to Bass Pro shop and asked about .375 and .460 ammo and they looked at me like I had 3 eyes LOL ! I live in south Florida and there is nearly no need for big caliber rifles.

460 Weatherby is a "specialty" ammo that is "batch run" when it is gone no more will be produced until the next time. With so little demand for it, the production date keeps getting pushed out further. I'd start thinking about Plan "B" if I were you.

@Edward1970 your knowledge and understanding of firearms is very poor. You should spend time studying up on sporting arms and their attributes and that would include sporting ammo. Then not only would your questions make more sense to members of a forum such as this, you would also learn the majority of the answers yourself from you studies. Good Luck

Even in good times 460 Weatherby ammo is going to be in the $150+ range for a box of 20.

Now with a ammo shortage going on it will be even more if you can find it.

Rather curt and gratuitous response. New member here asking questions, best to be constructive with answers rather than disparaging.

@Edward1970 it was summed up perfectly by @Shootist43 . A good friend whom works for Weatherby has told me just like the rest of the industry, shortages of components are delaying their already short runs they do of their 460 offerings. They'll get to it, eventually.

You say planning for the future. Do you currently own the .460? Just curious.

The people asking nice gentle questions are basically hinting at one of two things:

If you were ready for a .460 Weatherby, you'd know how to get the ammunition.

And

In the ammunition craze that is going on right now, you'd be better served by something else that you'd be more able to use and enjoy.

Other than that, if you've already committed, we'd be glad to help in any way we can. I know a guy who bought a .458 Lott ammunition first. Silly fool didn't even own a rifle in that caliber. I'm getting along just fine with my Lott now...erm I mean that silly guy I know is...:ROFLMAO:

If I were in the market for .460 ammunition I’d got to the range gently approach the gentleman with the twitch without our making and sudden movements or load noises so as to not cause him to flinch and politely ask if I could by his remaining 19 rounds...

On a more serious not to my knowledge it will have to be outside of Canada as other than aboriginal peoples no one in Canada can buy sell or trade it.

What a great way to kick off our 2025 hunting season in South Africa.

This beautiful Impala ram was taken at just over 300 yards, took a few steps and toppled over.

We are looking forward to the next week and a half of hunting with our first client of the year.

Do you have any more copies of African Dangerous Game Cartridges, Author: Pierre van der Walt ? I'm looking for one. Thanks for any information, John [redacted]
