South Africa
New member, I recently purchased a hunt to South Africa at the local Friends of the NRA Dinner. I never thought I would be able to take a trip like this, Its not going to be cheap but its not as expensive as I thought.
I look forward to reviewing the forum and hope everyone will be patient if I ask to many questions. I plan on a ten day hunt for plains game and we will be going to the Limpopo region. I plan on taking a .308.
Any advice on books to read or ways to prepare will be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Brant

Welcome to AH Brant! Good folks here, do not be concerned about asking questions, that's what the place is for!

Hi Brant,

You should have a great time. take pictures and post a story when you return.

I suggest that Consider looking at the PH's web to see if you would like to add any additional animals to your bag list. Set your budget and have some additional money just in case. The reason for this is that as you move around the property and are looking for the animals on your list, you probably will bump into a nice trophy that you should consider.

I would like to suggest that you use a firearms service for Jo' Berg. It is money well spent.

Quality bullets are a plus. Any 308 ammo that you have any left over will be a nice forgotten item you failed to pack. Just let the PH know about the forgotten item.

Welcome to AH, Brant !

Bob, I'll be going with Numzaan Safaris. I have the following on my list Blue Wildebeest, Gemsbok, Hartbeest, Impala, Springbok and Warthog. Hope I'm not being overly confident???

To ALL,
Thanks for the warm welcome, I plan to follow-up with the recommendations you sent.
I'm looking forward to exploring the site.

Not at all, on my first Safari I took a Kudu, Gemsbok, Black and Blue Wildebeest, Impala, Springbok, Blesbok, Mountain Reedbuck and a warthog and all in 7 days. Good luck can't wait to read the report and see the pics.

Welcome to AH. I would give you the same advice as Brickburn. Spend as much time as you can on this site. Jerome has listed several very good threads to read through. You can also PM folks on here who will gladly answer questions.

Chopped up the whole thing as I kept hitting the 240 character limit...
Found out the trigger word in the end... It was muzzle or velocity. dropped them and it posted.:)

2,822fps, ES 8.2
This compares favorably to 7 Rem Mag. with less powder & recoil.
