I have been reading AH for a couple of years. I have hunted the Limpopo three times two plains game and one cape buff hunt. I used a .338 win mag and a .416 rem mag. I plan to do a 2020 Mozambique buff/croc/hippo hunt. I am trying to decide on a 458 or 505 Gibbs for buff. Suggestions appreciated. Ed

I think the .416 will be fine for buff, unless you are just wanting an excuse to buy a larger caliber rifle lol

My 416 rem Winchester safari express is fine one chest shot anchored my buff in 2018. Maybe I need a bigger bruise lol. 458 win mag most reasonable price wise but a fifty cal in 505 Gibbs is about 2k more. Standing by .

Welcome to AH Edward. It sounds like you are already seriously addicted to Africa. I’d like to hear about your previous hunts (must include pics). Enjoy planning your 2020 hunt. Sounds like it will be an adventure.
As far as rifles, I’d stick with the .416, but then there is that burning “NEED” for a new rifle. .505 has that “cool” factor, but I’d go with the .458 Lott.

Welcome aboard Ed. Since your 416 Rem. has already taken a Buffalo (hopefully cleanly) then I would use it on your next hunt and save the "Stopper" calibers for the PH(s.) Now on the other hand if all you see when you close your eyes is the Elephant of your dreams by all means buy the 505 Gibbs. You'll not be satisfied till you do.
