I've never been to Africa, but I'm itching to go!

I've never hunted anything larger than white tail and feral hog. After watching hours and hours of DG videos, it sure seems to me that hunting feral hogs on the run is the best live practice I can do to be able to deal with a charging dangerous critter.

Any other recommendation are appreciated!

Welcome aboard! Lots of info and knowledge to draw from on this site. Hope you get to Africa soon!

Welcome to AH, you've come to the right place for info on hunting the Dark Continent. I agree with you spot and stalk hunts for wild hogs is great practice for any type of African hunting

Thanks reedy!

Welcome to AH sir. Lots of threads on here that will give you insight into hunting African game.

Welcome to AH.

Howdy!

Welcome Sir. I stalked this place for quite some time before officially becoming a member. Friendly bunch here. Also a wealth of knowledge and experience. I highly encourage you to stay tuned here and read any post that looks interesting. Enjoy!

Welcome to AH. Hunting hogs is great practice for Africa. What part of Texas do you live in? Are you able to hunt hogs for free? My sons and I have hunted Hogs in the vicinity of San Antonio on two separate occasions.

I live in Sugar Land, SW of Houston.

No, no free hunting for me any more. I used to own land up in San Jacinto County, west of Lake Livingston, but I sold it 3 or 4 years ago - lots of hogs up there, and they were always tearing up my pasture. Now I have to pay to play.

I've reached out to the wardens for FBC/Brazoria/Colorado counties. They don't seem to know any farmers or ranchers that are having issues. I kind of doubt they're as unaware as they made out to be, but I wasn't about to call them liars, either.

I did find one place south of San Antonio - it's $600 for 3 or 4 hogs, 3 days on their ranch. If you can put together a party of 4, they throw in an extra day gratis.

I've also hunted Freedom Ranch in Gonzalez. Lots of pigs, but the property is only about 350 acres or so, and the owner doesn't think anything about putting 15 or 20 hunters out there at a time. My buddies and I killed 14 hogs in a day, but I won't be going back there. Plus, the owner's kind of a jerk.

We may have hunted the same ranch between Wielder TX and Gonzalez. I shot 950 lbs. of hog over a 3 day hunt. The biggest one was 430 lbs. At that time they offered a "trophy" hog i.e. something over 300 lbs. to parties with 6 or more hunters. Being the old guy in the group the guys voted to let me shoot the trophy hog. Our second hunt was at a place near Eagle Pass TX. I will never go back there nor will I recommend it to anyone.

What a great way to kick off our 2025 hunting season in South Africa.

This beautiful Impala ram was taken at just over 300 yards, took a few steps and toppled over.

We are looking forward to the next week and a half of hunting with our first client of the year.

Do you have any more copies of African Dangerous Game Cartridges, Author: Pierre van der Walt ? I'm looking for one. Thanks for any information, John [redacted]

Out of all the different color variations of Impala the black Impala just stands out with its beautiful pitch black hide.

Impala is one of the animals you will see all over Africa.
You can see them in herds of a 100 plus together.

This excellent ram was taken with one of our previous client this past season.
