Hello from Southeast Texas

Welcome to AH! Have you thought about what you'd like out of your first trip to Africa? Not just animals you'd like to hunt, but also the type of experience you're looking for.

I want to experience the culture and food of South Africa. I'm sure it is far different than anything that I've experienced so far in all my travels. (mainly to the Middle East and Germany). It should be very interesting.

Well I do hope you like meat. South Africans prefer meat for main course, meat for a vegetable and sometimes meat for dessert (ok maybe not the last one). And it's really good from the sausages to the various preparations of game meat. Eland, Gemsbok and Springbok are my favorites. Biltong is another treat I love. It's kind of like their version of jerky but the curing process is different and the flavor is quite different too. The South Africans also take hospitality to a new level that I think you will enjoy.

If you have any questions regarding @JKO HUNTING SAFARIS, please let me know. Planning a first safari can seem daunting at first. But enjoy the process, the build up is part of the fun. And make use of this great forum, ask lots of questions, we've all been where you are now in planning your first trip and are a pretty good lot with sharing information.

Welcome to AH SSG Joe! Thank you for your service. Glad you found us.

:S Welcome:

Hello and welcome!

Welcome, lots of good resources on here.

Be prepared for your next hunting addiction. There’s nothing quite like Africa and no one two places are the same even within the same country or areas.

I don’t have near the experience some others have in Africa, but I spend a good bit of time in SE TX and am retired Army as well. Not sure where in that area you’re from, but more than willing to try and meet for lunch or couple beers if you want and I’ll answer what questions I can. Feel free to shoot me a PM

Thanks for the welcome! I do love meat. I am looking forward to trying meat from each one of the animals I harvest. I will definitely have to try some of the biltong. I enjoy trying new foods and experiences, which was the best part of my deployments.

Hooah! I'm a grunt myself. I live in a little town called Silsbee just north of Beaumont.
I like that plan. It would be good to talk to a fellow grunt and talk hunting.

SSG Joe, thanks and welcome to AH. Lots of helpful information and people available here. The advice I received helped make first safari a success. Second is wheels up in 30 days because you can't go just once.

Welcome aboard, nice to have another fellow Texan!

Welcome to AH and thanks for your service. I haven’t hunted RSA but don’t rule out Namibia. Beautiful, clean, diverse terrain.

Joe, asking us for suggestions probably isn't in your best interest!! We'll have you bankrupt lickety split! lol Good luck planning your very own safari, and thank you for joining us here on AH!!!

That's what I understand to be true. Good luck on your hunt. What are you planning on hunting?

Good Morning x84958
I have read your post about Jamy Traut and your hunt in Caprivi. I am planning such a hunt for 2026, Oct with Jamy.
Just a question , because I will combine Caprivi and Panorama for PG, is the daily rate the same the week long, I mean the one for Caprivi or when in Panorama it will be a PG rate ?
thank you and congrats for your story.
Best regards
Philippe from France

Hello Doug,
I am Philippe from France and plan to go hunting Caprivi in 2026, Oct.
I have read on AH you had some time in Vic Falls after hunting. May I ask you with whom you have planned / organized the Chobe NP tour and the different visits. (with my GF we will have 4 days and 3 nights there)
Thank in advance, I will appreciate your response.
Merci
Philippe
