I was introduced to Ruark as a small boy after reading the Old Man and the Boy. In my quest to read everything Ruark, I was introduced to the notion of Africa in the Horn of the Hunter and Harry Selby. While I never got to meet Harry Selby personally, I did correspond with him prior to his death and found him to be a gracious Gentleman that took the time to answer my questions and freely share his stories that fueled my desire to make it to Africa as soon as I could get there. In my mind, he is one of the most notable of any of the hunters, of any race, to trek the African continent.
I met my former neighbor in 1991. Had already been hunting Africa for years. Ran into him about 7 months back and planning another trip.
He gave me his personal “Horn of the Hunter” and I read it multiple times. Being a corporate pilot for the last 40+ years I’ve managed to obtain a decent collection of books from the Antique Gallery in Anchorage and a few from an old library in England and a few purchased at Holland&Holland in England, plus was able to handle Denys Finch Hattons double rifle.
In Anchorage I was able to handle OSA Martins Westly Richard’s.
Haven’t made it to Africa yet but hoping to now that I’m retired. Like many who’ve posted her go alone. But that’s ok.
Purchased my Interarms 375 last year.
Enjoyed reading the responses and the video. I feel the historical context important to really understand the years past.
Nice Report! Im about to pull the trigger on booking the LDE with Patrick. I have been talking about it with him for about 3 yrs now. Romain hit me up the other day with an offer I can't refuse for 2027.
