How do you tell if a gun case is approved for airline travel? I was w/ the sales man at Dicks and BPS and neither had a positive answer so I did not buy a case.

Best way is to go to the company's web site to see if it is approved for airline travel.

Go to airline link and look to see there requirements.

Or stick with the main group: pelligan, Tuffcase, Cabelas, Basspro, americase. and i am sure that there are others. Make sure you have a 2 gun case in case you decide to take a 2nd rifle along in the future.

Agree with James about going to the airline you are flying and see what their requirements are for certain. They change. Also make sure you check every carrier you are flying.

Generally, Locking, hard cases within the dimensions prescribed will work. Two rifles max usually. (How you would carry more, I have no idea)

I've been to Africa 3 times with a Tuffpak and love it, I pack the rifles, binoc and some of the heavier clothes as extra protection. I also put the rifle in a soft case and put that in the tuffpak and off it goes. So far the airlines have not been able to damage it and it's not as heavy as metal cases so you stay under the weight limit for the airline. Tuffpak

I have been using a "Personal Property" rider on my State Farm homeowner's policy to cover guns when I travel with them.
I have several firearms, but only one is worth over $20K (A Heym double rifle).
Very interested.
Would firearms be covered for damage, as well as, complete loss?
I'll can let the State Farm rider cover my watches...
