Good evening AH! I am a long-time hunter/angler with experience chasing a variety of critters in the states from elk, mule deer, black bear, pronghorn, and whitetails and turkeys on our farm. Also an avid bird hunter. I have benefitted from this site for many years now but have never posted anything - mostly because I didn't figure I had much to offer and was utilizing all of the info on this site to prepare for my first hunting trip to Africa in 2018. Fast forward I will be going on my 5th trip to Africa in a week and it would be #6 if it weren't for covid. All of the trips have been wonderful. We hunted with several outfitters in SA in many provinces. Even though each outfitter has been great, we have gone with a different one each time to get different experiences and see many parts of SA. We typically research outfitters and locations for 2 years before choosing a destination, fueled mostly by information on this site and countless conversations at DSC. My wife and two boys hunt as well so these trips are typically family trips with another family or two. On a previous trip my youngest son accompanied me on a buffalo hunt. He was completely captivated with the experience and before that trip was over he insisted that even if it meant he only hunted one animal on the next trip he wanted it to be a buffalo. He has been practicing a lot with the .375 and he is ready to go. Next week that adventure begins! I will post a hunt report from that trip and in another post some highlights and lessons learned from previous trips. I will try to contribute more to this forum in the future - I would rather read than write but I do have some experiences that may help others getting started. Safe hunting!
