On to what your question is more likely about.
Really hard to tell if the Wildebeest moved his right front backward as a reaction or just before the shot and screwed you up.

I think it started out as a great shot and may not have ended up that way.

Let's see the trophy picture!

Agree with Brickburn. That’s a whole lot of arrow sticking out. To me it looks like it didn’t penetrate bone.

Haha no kevlar.....I was actually quite a ways to his right but it sure doesn't look like it in that screen capture.

Were you able to track and find the animal? At what distance was the shot taken? What was the draw weight of your bow? What weight arrow were you using? What type of Broad Head were you using? What is your arrow speed? The initial angle didn't look too bad and the shot placement behind the leg should have avoided major bones. However to me it appears that there was a serious lack of penetration. Hence the aforementioned questions.

Please let us know the result and if you found your Wildebeest. Give us some insight to your setup.

Well I saw the episode, so I know how it turned out. Congrats on a great BW!!!

Talk about a canned hunt, did they put honey on that lick?

Not sure that wildebeest like honey? Setting up at at salt/bait/water is pretty common practice across the world for archery hunting.

As it turned out the shot was perfect but I too thought that I'd hit a bit far forward and penetration had been compromised. In fact, I had about a foot of penetration and the arrow stopped on the far shoulder. Shockingly there was zero blood for the first 80 yards and I never thought we'd see the bull again. At 80 yards it looked like someone was throwing buckets of blood on the ground and the bull was quite dead at 100 yards. I really thought I'd messed up but this picture tells the story. Yup, blue wildebeest are tough!

Awesome!!!! Fallow Rut coming up for me in a week. Will probably concentrate on the does and other goodies. The stinky stags will get a pass this time around.

Good luck!!!

Good luck!!!

Thanks. Wounded a Duiker last week, and did not have my dogs with me. Think I clipped a twig, as I was shooting through a tunnel all the way to the Duiker. Rolled him, and got up like a bat out of hell. Lots of blood but gone. Happens to everyone. Not the first time, and won't be the last time.

Going to give South African fallow deer a try in June.

Awesome. They are tough down here in the Eastern Cape. They occupy some massive country.
Will you be hunting from blind or on foot?
Hunting walk and stalk by bow during their rut is one of the most incredible bow hunting experiences out there.
Sadly, we dont take any bookings over that time. :D:D:D

Going to try and do it on foot but have a couple blinds in strategic locations if need be. We saw piles of them on our last trip to EC and I'd never really thought about hunting them there but after hunting them in Europe, NZ and Argentina, it seems crazy not to. Never any lack of things to hunt on the EC for sure.

Hi Jay,

Hope you're well.

I'm headed your way in January.

Attending SHOT Show has been a long time bucket list item for me.

Finally made it happen and I'm headed to Vegas.

I know you're some distance from Vegas - but would be keen to catch up if it works out.

Have a good one.

Mark
