I am an avid archer, I have had a lot of products in my hands. That said I want to gift my PH some things to update his equipment on the farm. I have recently started shopping for the farm. Can anyone advise if I need to apply for any permits specifically itar, itac. For things like an sig 1500 rangefinder, scope (I broke his 3x12x44) on a .308, pop up blinds to encourage more people to try archery hunts, & lastly some Spypoint cameras, testing to see if I can watch a watering hole back here in US. I fell in love with hunting there and plan on making it an annual trip. As a novice hunter I was successful on a walk and stalk for duiker, I plan on primarily archery hunting, but in the off chance I choose large game, I don’t want him to have a broken scope and it’s much more affordable for me to buy it all here and take on my journey. Am I violating any laws with these gifts? I wanted to be extra safe, you know as a lady traveling across the world solo, you can never be too careful.

I would ask him what would be of use to him. As long as it does not involve firearms, ammunition, and perhaps drones I can't imagine getting into trouble over inanimate objects.

First welcome to AH.

Check with the PH and see what he really needs. You might ask the company you plan on buying the replacement scope from about itar on the specific product.

Thanks gentlemen it is itar I am concerned about for both scope and rangefinder.

I just looked up itar and by the definitions on the website I highly doubt you can get into trouble basic hunting tools. A guidance system for a rocket launcher is a different story.

You just place them into your rifle case or suit case and say that they are for personal use if questioned and then just leave them.

Welcome to AH.

Cash is king. Just give him the equivalent value in cash. Let them know what the gift is for and let them decide.

I Leave my extra custom ammo as a gift, not a tip. Beyond that, they generally know what they want or need and I give them cash…

:S Welcome: to AH

If you can find something that he needs, thats nice of you....Presents can be nice if you come up with something custom or special, like a group hunt t-shirts or hoodies, or a custom knife, ect...

The reality is that cash is cash is king...all the time

Welcome to AH

Depends, you can look up the country and see most expensive products listed on travel sites and videos.

Example: AA batteries are expensive in Zimbabwe and you should hear the PH’s moaning in camp about how much they spend on batteries for a leopard hunt.

I had heard about this on the forum so even though I wasn’t hunting leopard I brought a giant pack of Energizer AA with me in my carry on and gave them to my PH at the end of the hunt in addition to some gun cleaning supplies and a well earned tip.

Also a lot of PH’s use those Havalon knives and the disposable blades are hard to find over there.

I'd ask him specifically about the scope vs. cash as you can get them cheaper in the USA - in particular Leupold's which are great durable scopes for them

I am righthanded, so not interested in the rifle, but I have a 375 RUM and 350 gr bullet loading data is very hard to come by. If you could reply with information regarding your loads I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you, Ray Boone, Leavenworth, WA

Hello - I was looking at your post from several years ago regarding the Winchester 300 H&H. Any chance you still have the lefty M70 300 H&H for sale?

An excellent AH member right here! I had a fantastic transaction with Hornedfrogbbq (I was the seller). His communication was first rate, payment was extremely fast, and I would have absolutely no reservations at all dealing with him again. Thank you, F!
