Thanks Jv. It would be nice to see the other Gibbs rifle you mentioned. This one originated from the NT. It now resides with me in NSW.Nice rifle and a great cartridge. A friend of mine has its exact twin.
Congratulations! My new to me Gibbs 360 No. 2 NE with non original case. This will pair nicely with my Gibbs Farquharson in 303 British.View attachment 651093View attachment 651094View attachment 651095View attachment 651096
In its past life the rifle has taken a lot of water buffalo here in Australia. It would be nice to do another buff hunt at some point, but for now I will be putting together some loads and getting familiar with shooting it.Beautiful rifle in an unappreciated cartridge. May you use it in good health.
What are your plans for hunting with it?
Thanks, will doYou have caused me to lust, envy and covet......beautiful rifle!! How about some pics of it and the single together.
I believe the 375H&H that was introduced just seven years later is to blame for the lack or recognition of the 360 No. 2. And the fact that the H&H was available in a magazine rifle instead of a double, meaning less expensive. Timing is everything and marketing is golden. In its past life the rifle has taken a lot of water buffalo here in Australia. The 360 No. 2 packs a good punch, and is largely forgotten about these days
Thanks Huvius. The previous owner has a supply of cases and dies which I will be receiving shortly, so that should keep me out of trouble for a while. I believe there are some 450/400 3" formed cases amongst them as well.Great Gibbs!
I had a Greener 360No.2 double and yes, the No.2 is no slouch and largely overlooked. Good for buyers, not so good when you are looking to sell...
I used original Kynoch brass which was great other than the Berdan priming and then Bertram brass but found the Bertram to be a very different shape than my chambers so gave them a good anneal before fire forming which I did with a full power load - worked beautifully.
I also made some from 450/400 3" which needed just a little base and rim thinning.
A few years ago, Ellwood Epps (iirc) had a Gibbs Farquharson in the 360No.2 which, unfortunately, I didn't buy - don't know what the heck was wrong with me!
Thanks BeeMaa. Yes, timing certainly is everything. It is nice to own an odd chambering that can still be used effectively for most game.I believe the 375H&H that was introduced just seven years later is to blame for the lack or recognition of the 360 No. 2. Still a great score for you.
