Welcome to AH. I’m just taking a wild stab at the fact you like the .450/400. What rifle is it? Tell us a little about yourself. Have you been to Africa?

I have been roaming around this forum for a while now and thought it’s about time I say hello to all.

Hello 450/400,

Khomas Highland Hunting Safaris of Namibia, welcomes you to the greatest forum on earth.

Cheers,
Velo Dog.

Hi Meigsbucks,

The 450/400 is one of the many classic calibers I like. I am lucky to have a VC SxS chambered in this cartridge.
I am also fond of the 375 H&H, 404J and 500 NE and am lucky to have these rifles also.
I love collecting, shooting and hunting with all these classics.
I have yet to travel to Africa but am planning to do so in the near future when current travel restrictions have lifted, I would have been there this year like many others if is wasn’t for this bloody COVID.

Regards,

Hi 450/400, Africa is ready and waiting for you and all our hunting friends from abroad. Covid was a disaster, but possibly one positive to come from it is a re-focus upon the value of hunting in conservation. Without you hunters, there is no future. Also of interest and gratification to me is the determination of the hunters to get back as soon as possible, absence makes the heart grow fonder, come while you can, the animals need you!

Hello and welcome!

Welcome aboard 450/400. You certainly have an fine battery of rifles. How about some pics. and details? What do you hunt in Oz?

Hi Shootist43,

I mostly hunt Sambar, Red and Fellow deer. I was planning to travel to Africa this year to hunt Buffalo, will hopefully get there next year. I would also like to hunt buffalo in NT in the not to distant future.
I am currently lucky to own a VC in 450/400, a Chapuis in 375, a Westley ‘White Hunter’ in 500NE, a Rigby PH in 416 Rigby and a newly acquired Brno 602 custom in 404J. I have yet to take any photos of the 404.

One of these days I might be lucky enough and or able to acquire a double rifle, but for now I'm satisfied with the "larger bore" single and bolt action rifles I have. I own two 404(s) one is a CZ550 the other a rebarreled Winchester Mod. 70, a Ruger No. 1 in 416 Rigby and three 375 H&H(s). None of which wear a pretty stock. Just plain Walnut. But like many of us, I enjoy looking at beautiful rifles especially knowing that they are used used.

Currently doing a load development on a .404 Jeffrey... it's always surprising to load .423 caliber bullets into a .404 caliber rifle. But we love it when we get 400 Gr North Fork SS bullets to 2300 FPS, those should hammer down on buffalo. Next up are the Cutting Edge solids and then Raptors... load 200 rounds of ammo for the customer and on to the next gun!
To much to political shit, to little Africa :-)
Spending a few years hunting out west then back to Africa!

I doubt you are interested in any trades but I was getting ready to list a Sauer 404 3 barrel set in the 10-12 price range if your interested. It has the 404J, 30-06 and 6.5 Creedmoor barrel. Only the 30-06 had been shot and it has 7 rounds through it as I was working on breaking the barrel in. It also has both the synthetic thumbhole stock and somewhere between grade 3-5 non thumbhole stock
