For sale: A Merkel 140 side-by-side double rifle in 9.3x74R.

I purchased it from a dealer in Germany a few years ago, with the intention of keeping it as my personal double rifle. It kinda kills me to let it go, but I just don’t see when and how I’m ever going to hunt with it, at least not in the next five to ten years.

Full disclosure: the original bill of sale from the German dealer claims it is a left-handed gun. I had George Caswell look at the rifle in late December, and he says it has a slight left-hand cast. Otherwise, it’s ambidextrous. The rifle is beautiful. Immaculate condition, never hunted, taken to the range or fired outside of the factory. No nicks, no scratches, I can find one tiny, barely noticeable ding. The Cabela’s gun people here in Tulsa looked at it in January and graded it at 99% condition. According to what I can discover online about the proof marks, it's a September 2009 build. The rifle will come with 50 rounds of brass, 100 bullets, and three Redding reloading dies and components shipped separately (not used -- purchased second hand from someone on AH), and the dealer's original hard plastic case (no, not the factory box, unfortunately).

Asking $7000 with shipping & Insurance from my FFL to yours (Alaska & Hawaii will need to pay the adt'l charges). Personal check (once it clears), Zelle, Paypal, or Venmo all work well, and if you're within a hour of Tulsa, OK, I'm happy to drive to meet you in person.

If you want more photos or a video, send me a PM. Happy to discuss over the phone as you're interested, too.

Weight ? Barrels length ? do you have the scope mount?

Do you have a regulation target or one that you have shot?

I don’t have the scope mounts. Just the rifle. Barrels are 23 1/2 inches. Weight is 8 lbs, and the LOP is 13 5/8 inches.

I don’t, sorry. The dealer did not have one, nor have I fired the weapon.

Man,if you are going to ride this man into the ground, you could at least put a saddle on him.
Nice rifle great price. If I didn't have so many irons in the fire , I would be all over this.

So you have not shot it nor is there a test target ? How do you know if it is safe and in regulation as far as where right and left is hitting?
Full disclosure, as mentioned previously: I purchased the rifle from a dealer in Germany in late '21. The rifle didn't come with a target. Seems quite logical in assuming in the 12 years since it was manufactured (2009) the factory regulation load target and original papers from Merkel were lost. So, it's been what the Germans call a "closet weapon", aka it's stayed in the aforementioned plastic case for the past three years, without going to the field or to the range. I had plans to get into reloading with the components, but eventually realized I'd rather sell -- or swap for a safari, outfitters -- to go on safari again. Africa is calling my name.

Someone please buy this.

I’ve corresponded with Whit on and off for quite awhile about this rifle and he’s been an open book. It’s a no - go for me right now and I am going to regret it, it’s exactly what I want.

Yeah @Whit contacted me about swapping for a hunt...but unfortunately cash rules at the moment, so I unfortunately couldn't make deal....seems like good guy as contacted me again to say am giving you last chance before I post it on here for sale....but as said can't do at moment....so all what he has said about it seems reasonable
