I have never tried to get a manufacture date from Zeiss but according to Strobebel's book Old Rifle Scopes this model scope could be marked Zeiss or Hensoldt. American market availability dates were from 1968-1973 for Carl Zeiss but those are not production dates. That is as good of a guess as I have for now.

the reason I ask is that it says Made in Germany. During the time period 1945 1990 things were marked either East or West Germany. The scope appears to show some wear, but it wouldn't be pre 1945 since I'm unaware of variable scopes of that era, which would leave sometime after reunification- but as you said, 1968-1973 appears to be the best guess as to age.
