Looks like I may be going back to SA and bringing 4 people with me. Likely end of August and/or first 2 weeks in September… I have the desire to hunt other countries while I’m there. I need to explore those opportunities too.

I have other trips booked in the states and still have a (small) deposit on a Kamchatka Moose hunt that I’m hoping will happen in 2023 - not holding my breath! Two of the guys that I took to SA this year want to go again and now two other friends want to go for their first trips. So I’m starting to work out the details.

I’m starting to look at Flights. So I thought I’d post my findings and process. Using the Delta App. So far I found:

My goal is to find flights with one stop and a 2-3 hour layover in both directions. I’m just starting with Delta.

I’ll update as flight costs change.

Please feel free to contribute your findings as to help the community that may want to book their own flights.

I’ve used travel agents in the past. This post will exclude them as an option. My intent is to find the best self booking routes and values based on my location (flying out of San Francisco).

Wow, this is less than I paid in May flying out of Atlanta…

Pretty good price for roundtrip? :)

I just checked via regular giggle search for round trip SFO to JNB with one stop. The Delta RT 1 stop through ATL shows a little over $1500. However the 2 hr layover in ATL is a little short, even for outbound. I didn't check the inbound layover/connection time in ATL but it needs to be more like 3-4 minimum.

Well, when I got our SA flights at the beginning of the year, I watched prices change daily. They were failing until they got to $756. Then we pulled the trigger!

I had a quote from a Travel Agent around that time for over $1,300…

It’s much like playing the stock market, though the downsides/upsides probably aren’t quite as extreme.

You can try to buy the dip, and it doesn’t dip or it keeps dipping after you buy or keeps going up when you’re waiting for a dip. Who knows these days. I’m not sure there’s a strong pattern any more, other than getting screwed by the airline when you least expect it. Albeit, most customers fly without problems.

just booked flights thru Travel Express last week So Dakota and Pennsylvania thru Atlanta 1333.00 R/T

I was looking earlier this week, Depending on where you Are going in RSA, flying out of Detroit thru Atlanta to Cape Town was cheaper than going to JNB.

Hi Jay,

Hope you're well.

I'm headed your way in January.

Attending SHOT Show has been a long time bucket list item for me.

Finally made it happen and I'm headed to Vegas.

I know you're some distance from Vegas - but would be keen to catch up if it works out.

Have a good one.

Mark
