First range session with my new .375

I finally found the .375 I've been looking for an Interarms Whitworth Express.

Went to the range today and did a little shooting at 50 yards off the sticks. This is with the express sights and Federal 300 grain factory loads. With my blurry vision and a new to me rifle I was pretty pleased, can't wait to see what it will do with a decent scope on it!

Just an FYI. I have a BRNO 602 in 375H&H. Shoots great also. For a "plinking" and groundhog load I use Hornady 220gr FP's. The old 300gr FMJ's shot really well also. I used to shoot targets at an old barn that had used 2' x 2' timbers as it's outer wall. Set up a bench 100yds away and that was my range. I remember shooting one day and hearing the usual "thump" of the 300gr FMJ hitting the barn timber and then a hearing a "thwack". That didn't seem normal so I went to investigate. The bullet had passed through a section of timber that I hadn't shot yet, and lodged in the opposite wall. I dug it out and weighed it...298grs. Not bad. Great calibre!

PERFECT grouping.. fitting a scope will really make this fine rifle LETHAL at most distances.
Don't skimp on the scope!!

Thank you, the rifle is an Interarms Whitworth Express. These rifles were made in the '70s and '80s and are fairly common here in the states.

Sweet rifle! I am always a sucker for blued steel, walnut and express sights. I wanted an old mauser when I bought my second .375 H&H but I ended up with a brand new Winchester Model 70. Good luck with it. It is a super fun caliber to shoot, especially if you handload. Then the price is no more than shooting factory .30-06 rounds!

I have a couple hundred rounds down range now and a few good loads worked up. The rifle seems to like everything so far except the Barnes 235 grain Triple Shock. I topped it with a Leupold VX3i 2.5-8 in Leupold QD mounts. The Nosler 260 grain Accubond printed about 5" higher than the other loads I have been shooting but it's running quite a bit faster that is why it doesn't have it's own little orange dot . The targets were all shot off a bench rest at the 100 yard range, 3 shot groups. I didn't get the numbers on the bottom target with the 300 grain Sierras but they are running just over 2400 ave. velocity with similar ES & SD to the Accubonds. The Midway blems are shooting good with a few different powders but H4895 is about the best so far.
