The Fallow Deer hunting trophy consists of the horns with the skull or part of it. Fallow Deer horns are made up of bone tissue, mainly containing calcium and phosphorus, and are obsolete. Hidden horns mean that they grow, fall and grow after an annual cycle.

They grow on the front cylinders positioned on the front skull. Cylinders that begin to grow a few months after birth provide the basis for the subsequent growth of the horns. These are not horns. The tissue that develops in the upper part of the cylinders reacts to the hormones in the animal’s body, which cause the growth of the horns. The annual growth cycle of the horns is directly influenced by the day-night or so-called photoperiod alternation. The brain contains a kind of clock that measures light and dark and uses this information in the ultimatum to control the production of the male reproductive testosterone.

Very nice trophies.
My grandson and I have taken a few on exotic ranches here in Texas for meat , but prefer does for eating. Because they are exotics, they may be shot year round., but the hunting is more pleasant during the cooler months.

What are you considering long distance for this hunt?

Would be a dream to hunt there!

In the rut season, during the night, the males like to go in a muddy hole in a middle of the open space. You can see hundreds of them. Early morning they are coming back to the forest. On the way back we can shoot them. From the forest to the middle of the field are 600m or more. I had hunters shooting at 300-350m. And also at the 100m. After the rut they are eating in the fields. Hundreds of animals that can means many eyes. They don’t allow you under 300m. In this case long range shooting is 250-350m.

We have a large stock of fallow deer in Ireland. It is the most widely distributed of the 3 species we have, fallow, sika and red deer.
I often often seen them in the middle of the day in fields. They sit down in a group always facing out. Almost ”circling the wagons” !

Hi Jay,

Hope you're well.

I'm headed your way in January.

Attending SHOT Show has been a long time bucket list item for me.

Finally made it happen and I'm headed to Vegas.

I know you're some distance from Vegas - but would be keen to catch up if it works out.

Have a good one.

Mark
