Saw a F.A.I.R. rifle yesterday.. an o/u in 45-70. I take it from what i can find that these are built on their 20g frames. Anyone have/shoot one? How do these stack up to other 4 digit price doubles? I didn't have a tape with me..but looked like it was setup like an 'express'..20" barrels..etc..

I have a couple sabatti ( 470ne & 9.3x74r ), an angelo zoli ( 307win ), a Beretta silver series ( 689?) ( 444marlin ) winchester grand european ( 270 ), and a biakal ( 45-70 ) as a ( cheapy ) range toy.

I liked the looks of it.. and it was around 8.5#

Any opinions on these guns? thanks.

You can order fairs for quite cheap. Lead time is usually 4ish months. I was quoted $6200 for their top of the line (Iside safari prestige i think?) sxs double in 9.3x74R. The only problem for me was that they only go up to 9.3.

I quite liked the FAIR in all honesty. Its worth noting theyre a bit lighter than most would probably like, but being a 9.3 its probably not a deal breaker. Nice engraving, good balance. I may still get one

Combination gun can be useful, not really fond of the notion of rimless cartridges in it though. Much prefer to stick to rimmed rounds, for myself. How strong the FAIR O/U actions are, for higher pressure rifle cartridges like a 308/30-06 may be another question, as to loosening up down the road, which would kill resale value.

Most of the rimmed cartridges run a bit lower pressure, and will still kill stuff inside 300yds quite nicely. Guess it depends on how much shooting you will do with it, whether or not you reload, and what you want to do with it, as to how long it will take to loosen up and whether or not, other cartridges are practical for you.

Might be a good question for them. Maybe if I think about it, I'll email them.
Definitely something worth finding out, it would be a good bear gun assuming you could really take advantage of modern load data.

it's marked 45-70.. im guessing modern data is fine..just no +p or ruger #1 loads.. modern levergun loads should be quite fine..and plenty for accidentally bear.. though if I was going specifically for bear.. I'm pretty sure I'd take my 470NE double instead...

I just bought a new FAIR combination gun in 6.5x55/12 guage.

The gun has yet to arrive and I'm wondering if I made a mistake ordering a combination gun chambered for a rimless round.

I have a Chapuis 450-400 double that looks brand new and shoots well, never been hunted from what I can tell. I am willing to part with it as I have a 375 H&H Sodia on it's way from Dorleac & Dorleac. I am looking for $9,250 for it and if you are interested, I am happy to send you some pictures. Regards,
Steve
