Hello All---Have an interesting question regarding a Mauser 98 500 Jeffery made by Sterling Davenport. The express sights seem to high and don't come up as naturally as they should for me. The POI of 570gr bullets is perfect on target. But we all know how a big bore like this and the situations that might ensue while using it require a very natural stock fit and sight picture, and quickly. I feel the stock fits good, it is however seemingly modeled after the original jeffery rifles with some drop at the heel. I shouldered the rifle a bunch of times and imagined both the rear blade and the front NECG front bead being a millimeter or 2 lower and it appears that would solve the problem. The rear blade isn't carved to deep into the body of the blade and I've done plenty of filing in my day, and it is an easy switch to just replace the front 6.5mm sight with say a 5mm. My question is this....if I bring both the front and the rear down the exact same amount, will it change the point of impact or will it remain the same? My theory is that the POI will remain the same, my eye and sighting plain will just be in closer parallel to the bore and my cheek weld will be more natural and solid Any and all input is appreciated. Thanks
