DSC The Latest

Combining these organizations may be near impossible,

In the sense of two organizations agreeably coming together to pool their resources in an effort to make a single org that is greater than the sum of its parts, I'd have to agree with you.

But consider if DSC folds or becomes a fraction of the size it is now, this combining of the two may be exactly what we're seeing the first steps of at this moment in time. If this downfall of DSC transpires as is being predicted here in this thread, hunting is not coming to an end as a result. There will still be hunters and specifically international hunting.

SCI may end up picking up many of the broken DSC pieces and itself grow as a result. If this happens I hope that SCI will learn not only from the missteps of DSC's of the last few years but also from the good that DSC has done for conservation and deserves much credit for.

Philip why is SCI so difficult to do business with? A couple years ago we thought we'd only have time for one day so booked ahead for the second to last day. We ended up getting into town early so thought we'd take in two days.... Nope! They would not sell us a ticket. Said we could buy a 3 day ticket but could not sell us an extra one day ticket. We had a hard date to leave so could not stay for a 3rd day.

Turned out we had a great day out on the town instead;) And just attended the show the next day. Why would SCI turn away that extra money?
I am not sure what happened because now you can buy any number of days. It could have been the system was somehow not offering a 2 day pass at the time. Bottom line is just buy the four day and have a blast! Seriously your complaint may have caused them to fix this. We are trying very hard to listen to our exhibitors and members and learn from them. SCI is riding the wave and we want everyone to join in the fun!

I completely concur...

I guess my concern is...

his character and leadership have been under extreme scrutiny for the last 2+ years... with numerous people close to the DSC board and close to DSC executive leadership having very little good to say about either of those things.. (remember, he was the chair of the DSC board at one point, chair of the DSC foundation board, chaired the committee that plans/executes the annual show, etc..etc.. so lots of people have seen his character and leadership up close for quite some time)..

and now youve got the financial data point to consider as well..

we're not talking about a personal financial situation.. we're looking at a business foreclosure.. which would imply the business failed..

who knows what market conditions contributed, etc.. theres no way we'll ever know if the foreclosure was driven by poor leadership decisions, or something else.. its sadly a pretty common thing for farms to fail in the US though.. I think we do have to acknowledge that..

but.. at the end of the day.. you have someone whose character and leadership have been in serious question for a fairly long period of time, who very recently had a business they were in charge of fail.. who is now the senior leader of another business that most of us care (or perhaps cared, in the past tense) deeply

The crazy thing is you can sit back and watch it coming from a LONG ways. @mdwest has kindly restated a lot of things but there are pages and pages of this topic from last year. You could tell that the new president was going to have a lot of issues and here it is unfolding (again). I was really hoping for better outcomes but so far it isn't happening and TTHA (SCI) is shortening the gap.
Correct. I've seen this coming for a while and it just keeps rolling down hill. SCI and TTHA are on the uphill side of things!

I have no idea the shipping cost from here to Costa Rica. I can do my research on shipping and get back with you later today.

I didn't see your request re: ship co’s. My last shipment was 2023. Quotes from SBS Logistics ($1,198), Badger Cargo ($1,184 - used them) & AHG Trophy Shippers ($1,746). AHG owner's an asshole so wouldn't have used him anyway. Eastern Cape - Houston, TX, so your mileage may vary. NEVER use Karl Human Taxidermy aka Wild Africa Taxidermy on Eastern Cape. Trophies arrived shattered with no padding/packing material.
