Not sure when the next safari will be but practice never hurts. AH members @Art Lambart II and @Shootist43 , met up with me today at the Parma Woods shooting range to get in a little practice time!
Several rifles were used to send rounds down range and the results were good enough to "cut meat" as they say. Now we all just need to book the next safari!

lets see the targets. I don't know I think I see the start of a good group hunt right there. Maybe some spiral horns.;)

Maybe add a buff for some fun to.

Practice, practice, practice is always important even when you can't practice with your main rifle. That's why its important to have a similar manual of arms on all your guns, from your. 22 all the way up to your DG rifle.

You could be correct there @BillC. A group hunt is not out of the question!

I think that group needs a fourth...to keep those three out of trouble!!

Bill - you better go with them!!

@tarbe you could tag along as the fourth! Pieter has a nice new buff hunting area!!

@Shootist43 was working on his new 308 Norma mag, the shot to the right was called out, not to bad for Norma factory ammo at 100 yards. The large hole at 1 o'clock is his 416 Rigby with a 400 grain Norma Solid, if their expanding bullet shoots to the same point he'll be set for next years buff.

very nice those will all get the job done.

The scope on the 308 Norma Mag will get a 4 click adjustment to the left. The 416 Rigby was previously sighted in to be a little high at 75 yds. I think I'm going to leave it sit right where it's at.

Practising to simulate the hunting situation ("walk and stalk"), would also assist. Shooting at a passive target could be different than shooting at a moving target which "does not give you plenty of time to pull the trigger" combining the experience with an increased heart rate and Adrenalin pumping...
...adding shooting from 3-legged sticks, could add to the challenge.
The bottom line is: practise, practise, practise...

You are correct sir! For the above hunt I actually set up sticks in the field then backed of 75 yards and ran to the sticks to take the first shot! Then stepped forward and shot off hand. Repeat process! Gets the heart pounding for sure!

Chopped up the whole thing as I kept hitting the 240 character limit...

2,822fps, ES 8.2
This compares favorably to 7 Rem Mag. with less powder & recoil.

*PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS FOR MY RIFLE, ALWAYS APPROACH A NEW LOAD CAUTIOUSLY!!*
Rifle is a Pierce long action, 32" 1:8.5 twist Swan{Au} barrel
{You will want a 1:8.5 to run the heavies but can get away with a 1:9}
Peterson .280AI brass, CCI 200 primers, 56.5gr of 4831SC, 184gr Berger Hybrid.

I know that this thread is more than a year old but as a new member I thought I would pass along my .280AI loading.
I am shooting F Open long range rather than hunting but here is what is working for me and I have managed a 198.14 at 800 meters.
That is for 20 shots. The 14 are X's which is a 5" circle.

Have twice tried to post something that your site canned as "SPAM" or some problem.. "Contact the Administrator"... Not sure why even the "Contact" button would not send my comment so you only received my query but not the content in question. I'll see if I can get it to you this way... NOPE I use a VPN and perhaps that is causing me grief...
