Not sure if this is in the correct place....but does anybody know if SAKO makes or somebody makes scope mounts for SAKO 85s that can be taken off to use iron sights and then put back on to zero?

Thanks for any and all help in advance gents!

Yes. The optilock scope mounts are very good. I’d always suggest torquing them for repeatability and it really important to make sure the dovetails on the action are super clean.

I used to regularly change out a 3-9x50 with a 1-4x24 and had very few zero issues.

Hope that helps

Appreciate that...ill look into finding a pair for my sako brown bear in 338.

Just type sako optilock QD mounts in google, internet is full with offers.

When I was buying optilock, I even downloaded Sako optilock catalogue in PDF to know what I was looking for. There are low, medium and high, qd optilock mounts.

Then it has to be the new type where the bases stay on the rifle.

The old detachable mount, which was basically a normal Optilock with levers instead of hex screws, was difficult to hand tighten properly.

I never really got on with the QD mounts. I never changed stuff over in the field so just used a hex torque wrench at home. I would imagine QD's on a dovetail rail could be quite the challenge

Excactly.
I tried one on a ligth 338 LM with a muzzle brake, and the short opposit recoil force from the brake made the scope fall off the rifle.
The dovetail mount only works as designed when the force on the scope is forward into the dovetail as with an unbraked rifle.

Chopped up the whole thing as I kept hitting the 240 character limit...
Found out the trigger word in the end... It was muzzle or velocity. dropped them and it posted.:)

2,822fps, ES 8.2
This compares favorably to 7 Rem Mag. with less powder & recoil.

Rifle is a Pierce long action, 32" 1:8.5 twist Swan{Au} barrel
{You will want a 1:8.5 to run the heavies but can get away with a 1:9}

I know that this thread is more than a year old but as a new member I thought I would pass along my .280AI loading.
I am shooting F Open long range rather than hunting but here is what is working for me and I have managed a 198.14 at 800 meters.
That is for 20 shots. The 14 are X's which is a 5" circle.
