Does RSA have a minimum caliber for PG ? These .223 & 6mm test are infuriating

Yeah like any other internet discussion the vortex starts and the topic goes astray
That’s how this whole thing with me went down the toilet,
I initially went into the discussion to ask about sighting in a gifted 6.5cm for MPI with out using a dial up scope, and next thing I knew they where baiting my temper
Calling me an old out dated Fudd for using a non dial up scope and limiting my shots to maximum 350-400 yards , then the next thing was no one needs anything more then a .223 with 77gr TMK or ELDM for every large game animal in the world. Except elephants because everyone knows a thousand where killed with a 7x57 back in the days of elephant ( true part of the discussion/ dumpster fire)
I made the mistake of saying that wouldn’t fly on African game , they countered with they had been to Africa and killed a list of large animals in a controlled environment,
I thought it was unethical and unrealistic to promote such activity even in a small pen setting, you see the verity of Topics then pile on baited insults, the huge cult of believers dog piling into the podcast
Internet discussions always seem to zig zag over multiple topics and some topics bring out the worst in the fanatical fandom and hopefully you see my point
Ask a question and next thing a dumpster fire is blazing on three other topics
Lesson learned either I am a “ old Fudd “ or they are fanatical fools/tools.

Now let’s get back to our unscheduled discussion about hunting costumes
I kinda makes you wonder how good at tracking all them people are? I mean, I not bad, but they must be able to track spider over bare rock. As you know, slowly killing a animal in a pen is way different then in the wild, where they can go forever and them small for game calibers mostly dont leave exit holes and small entrance holes. I was watching a guy on Utube, shooting Roe bucks with a 243 and varmint bullets, even with excellent shot placement, he still needed to use a dog to find a buck that went into a corn field. he shot four Roe bucks and none of them left a blood trail, or had a exit wound. They are small deer, about the size of a lab. as I get older, the more I like pass threw shots and good blood trails, I don't like loosing animals in the brush or finding them down in the bottom of a canyon. but, thats just me. I personally dont cat what you wear hunting, but I will make fun of my friends.

Lets just say.... I've had bad experiences..... Consistently bad experiences!

Don't get me wrong they make good gear and I own some of it, but it seem like the Sitka Tuxedo has become the Louis Vuitton purse of the poser hunters.

My ideal hunter to guide for whitetail will show up with.....

Empty large ice chest in the back of his truck.
Brown overalls
His own pair of binoculars
.270, .308 or 30-06

Then I know he came ready to take care of business!...... efficiently
In Europe I would have doubts. Maybe not with the 30-06. (This is in jest of course. ;) )But regular hunting brown or green clothes and a 7x64, 8x57 or 9,3x62. No American calibers. Only new kids do this.

Yep, I worked for a large energy service company who had a corporate lease. All expenses paid - The customer just show up and “hunt”

We would have engineers come from whatever red-neck riviera they were just in then come down to hunt the king ranch in full Sitka pants and jackets. Pull Some “semi” custom new PRC rifle just for us to go sit in box blinds and drive around in the jeep looking for game. Hubble telescope attached to the rifle of course.

I would say “go ahead and turn down your scope to 3 power for me while we drive around incase we bump a Nilgai or hog”.

Which often got replied with “my scope only goes down to 5x or 6x” etc etc. I mean really? a 6-25x scope range? Who the hell buys that for a hunting rifle? My favorite client was one who left his gun at home. Then we just grab the camp 300 win mag with a Leupold 2-10 and go hunt.

“fake rich” oilfield trash new money is USUALLY terrible people. Sorry if I offend anyone
Hey, I like my Hubble telescope, took me a long time to save up for it. (don't like them on everything, but on a bean field rifle at near dark, oh yeah.)

Agree
I have a 8-32x56 Pentax on my heavy barrel 6mm rem 700
I still limit it to 300 yds on deer.

Alberta changed regulations this year so 22 cal centerfire and larger are legal for big game. Was 24 cal and larger until last year.

I believe a heavy for caliber 22 cal will kill a small deer effectively, but I see little advantage to the change. I sold my 243 and am starting my sons off with a a 6.5 CM as their beginner hunting caliber. Far more versatile IMO
.224 Texas Trophy Hunter which is a 22-x57 used 75-90 or heavier bullets .

The German 5,6x57 and its sister the 5,6x57R Rws 74 Ks 3400 fps factory the same ( can’t be reformed from x57 brass )

Finn Aasgaard wrote in some magazines about .223 for white tail with then new 64 Trophy Bonded .

But he was a shot outside the ordinary also .

Those two ZZ Top bearded fools told me they have killed over 400 elk with .223 77gr TMK @ 400-600 yards and considered 6mm as a over kill if you follow their instructions on their podcast and buy their ammo! ( I swallowed their bait for a argument and then the FUDD bashing went ballistic)
I looked today and they deleted the transcripts, cowards, and a embarrassing bunch of freaks pushing their false narratives on ethical hunting
With a brainwashed following !
This is a old video of one of their test , pathetic imo
I’ve seen that video before. It contains nothing to be proud of in my opinion.

Discussions that will never be solved:

Which caliber is best
High fence vs free range
What is a woman thinking

Oh my, yes!

These are all the same.
1. If I wear a $350 watch instead of a $35,000 watch will my PH know that I own a $35,000 watch, if I don't tell him?
2. If someone shoots an animal with a caliber I don't like does that make my pronouns shim and sher?
3. If someone uses a Blaser or a Remington 700 is it ok to question their sanity and call them stupid?
4. If someone doesn't use a Blaser, they are dumb because I save money on gunsmithing but barrels cost $1500.
5. If I ask someone to pick me up at the airport who lives 6 hours away but invited me on an elk hunt, am I rude?
6. German double rifles all suck, as most of them use a decocker that my girly hands can't manipulate. Is it ok to make fun of people that use Kreighoffs, Merkel's or Blasers even though I don't own a double rifle?
7. British double rifles are the best, even a 1890's gun is a better gun than a modern German or French factory double rifle. Is it ok to complain about CNC machining and modern steels?
8. Rigby is the best, even though my Rigby is a factory rifle that is made on a CNC machine by Blaserin Germany it has British provenance and charm that no German factory rifle made in the same factory like the Sauer 100, 101, 404, and Blaser R8, and Mauser 25 can compare with at 7-3 times the price.

My own dilemmas in life
1. New York strip or hamburger
2. Is she wearing panties?
3. Are those implants, not that I care but I am secretly keeping a tally.
4. What is the next hunt

Anyway, my comments are meant to support the OP in that the whole concept of using little bullets in a pen isn't sporting and unfortunately, that common sense isn't all that common. it's very easy to lead the blind masses. Just look at who gets elected in politics and how people take what celebrities say as wise and intelligent reasoning to live life by.

The outfiter I've used in RSA has a 270 caliber min. They prefer a 30 caliber, but admit that a 7mm is ok (7x57, 7-08, 280AI). This is based on the thought that heavy for caliber for bullets are better and that many clients show up and really can't qualify shooting at even 50 yards.

As for clothes, that old Woolrich plaid is just as effective for camouflage as any new fancy camo is. This is based on how the eyes of most ungulates that we hunt work. Also why drab colors work. And a other thing, tuff cotton is better in thorns than most synthetic, doesn't snag as bad and is a quieter that much synthetic clothing is. This is based on hunts in warmer areas Trying not to bash any specific clothing makers... hunting in cold or wet conditions changes things.
