Does anyone have any personal experience with the Champlin made bolt actions? They seem very well made, solid and nicely stocked.

A wealthy gentleman in my area passed away a while back and whoever is handling his estate has put his entire firearms collection on consignment at my LGS. There are three Champlins, one Griffin & Howe, a Ludwig Borovnik double rifle in 458 win mag among others. Those are the handful that caught my eye.

Champlin rifle were/are very high end custom/very-limited production rifles. Ross Seyfried the well know pistol competitor and firearm/hunting writer used to think the world of them.

I posted some time ago on article on the .340 Wby in which he speaks briefly of his Champlin rifle:

Thank you sir. I could definitely tell I was holding quality when I looked at them.

I spoke to Mr. Caswell about one and he said it was a good buy. I made an offer but they weren’t ready to deal yet, having just put it out. I’ll have to try again later. I’m guessing they’re going to sit a while.

I don't know about these rifles, but I know about George Caswell. He is a paragon of both knowledge and integrity when it comes to high-end rifles. I can't think of any situation where anything he recommends would turn out to be less than what he says it is. That, and his business partner J.J. Perodeau--perhaps one of the top-5 high-end gunsmiths in the world.

Here's a photo of Tony receiving that Shaw & Hunter award at the 1970 annual EAPHA Dinner Dance. Tony Dyer, then EAPHA President and Princess (Sunny) von Auersperg presented it. I also attended the event.

Good Afternoon,
How firm are you on your Dakota 416? I am highly interested but looking at a few different guns currently.

Best,
BJ
