Is the leather and hair-on hides supple or rigid/stiff?

My son and I are planning our safari to South Africa.

Most of our animals will be Euro mounts.

We’d like the hides from these animals turned into hair-on hides and leather for projects we will mostly make ourselves… throws, hair-on pillows, leather paneled end table/stools, etc.

Just trying to figure out what kind of product we will end up with or what we need to request when talking to taxidermists.

Thanks!

All of mine are super supple.

If you have it done in Africa, I’ve never seen them done any other way. I’ve had some done here. My taxidermist refers to them as “soft tanned”, I believe.

The warthog back skins I received are stiff much like when I salt tan a deer hide the other back skins were all soft tan. Regardless all of my hides had hair on.

I recommend you talk with your taxidermist to insure all your hides are soft tanned with hair on just to insure you get type hides you want.

Happy hunting and good luck with your after hunt projects.

Had an excellent classifieds transaction with JoninCO. A truly honest and standup member. I wouldn't hesitate at all to deal with him again. Thanks, J!

Hi Lance, Hope you well. I collect Mauser rifles and they are very much part of my cultural history in Africa. Would you consider selling the rifle now a year on ? I'd like to place it in my collection of Mauser rifles. Many thx

I saw where you hunted elephant with backcountry safaris in Zimbabwe.
Was looking to book an elephant hunt and wanted to know how your hunt went
and if you would recommend them.

Thanks
Mike
hi, do you know about lions hunters, leopard hunters, and crocodiles hunters of years 1930s-1950s
I'm new to Africa Hunting. I would like to purchase a Heym 450-400 double rifle. I'm left-handed but would prefer a non-canted gun. Is anyone in the community considering parting with theirs?
