Most of you may know when Pieter Erasmus from Paw Print safaris came to visit a year ago we decided to take him out fishing. Doing it properly!

Something most South Africans really enjoy.
Typically, from a boat floating on the Ocean, a nice Dam or the River. All of which can be done in January in South Africa while getting a nice tan.

We have to do it a little differently here in Canada in January and typically into February we can still get away with it.

and then there are the folks who like to push their luck.
This year has been unseasonably warm out in western Canada for weeks on end. To the point of being 15C the other day.
Any African will tell you that ice melts when it gets warm. Apparently someone did not get the message here in Canada!

Not to be out done.
The very next day, someone decided to do a repeat, in almost exactly the same spot!

(No animals were hurt during the filming of these events)

Who would have known that ice melts when it gets warm???

Can be a pretty regular occurrence here in Minnesota, especially during early ice if we get a late warm up.... In that first picture you can see an obvious line of weak ice. Most of us who live near the lakes know someone or have personal experience with ice issues. :E Cold:

I avoid ice issues. There is not a fish big enough for me to walk out on that ice this time of year.

They are nuts!

With flowing water I agree, our lakes are still pretty solid, but not much longer.

Wait for four weeks of 65F and then venture out with your car! Send me pictures! :ROFLMAO:

I agree, though I love to fish ice fishing doesn't seem to interest me. It seems it would be cold, which as a Texan I'm not to fond of and the thought of walking out on a frozen lake gets me a bit queezy.

Hi Jay,

Hope you're well.

I'm headed your way in January.

Attending SHOT Show has been a long time bucket list item for me.

Finally made it happen and I'm headed to Vegas.

I know you're some distance from Vegas - but would be keen to catch up if it works out.

Have a good one.

Mark
