CZ 600

I finally was able to handle the new CZ model 600. Stock was too long making it feel unwieldy. It is also one of the most butt ugly rifles I am ever seen. For me I know as soon as I pick up a rifle and put it to shoulder whether or not I will consider buying it. I pick up the rifle close my eyes and bring to shoulder. If sight picture is not lined up I set it down and walk away. The whole no sights on barrels just immediately turns me off. If I can’t work the action from the shoulder I set it down. Probably why I have bought exactly one new rifle that being a CZ 550 FS in 9.3x62. It did come with sights. I have been developing a feeling for 100 year old rifles in the last few years. Quite disappointed in CZ’s new offerings.

I have a CZ 600 Alpha in .308. I like it, mainly because its a shooter. Very nice trigger, my eye comes right to the center of my scope when I shoulder the rifle. You mention working the action from the shoulder, it was designed to do just than. Big knob on the bolt and a short throw. The first ammo I shot through mine Federal Premium 165gr Trophy Bonded Tip. Shot a box through the rifle, cleaned it and shot 4 groups which averaged .8 inches. Pretty good for factory ammo. It is kind of ugly though! And I have not been able to get used to the through the tang safety.

I get what you are. I appreciate older rifles. I have a lot more wood stocked rifles that are older than me than I have modern synthetic stocked rifles without sights. I just think some of the new stuff is cool too.

Me too.
When I pick up previous model cz 557 (pushfeed type after phased out crf cz 550), hogs back stock on 557, the sights do not allign.

On new cz 600 there was also safety recall.
Rifle offerings looks like sidelined, as a second priority market?
Rimfire line, so far holds quality cz 457. Shot and tried 2 of them.

Their main civilian market now is pistol market, for duty and sport with focus on IPSC. (although from my shooting community I hear comments of lower quality fit and finish even in pistol products)

CZ rifles as a whole are very accurate. Not a fan of the bulbous bolt knobs, but it really was the ballance and appearance that turned me off. The CZ triggers are very good. I especially like their single set trigger. I detest black plastic stocks though on any rifle. I actually like the tang safety as My Ruger rifles have those also. For those that use silencers I did notice the 600 muzzle was threaded and had a cap installed. Several nice features “just not my cup of tea old boy”.

I've fondled a few of the 600 Alpha models now, and definitely won't be buying one. There are no lefty versions, so that immediately eliminates all of the 600 models from consideration for me. The push button safety is weird and completely unlike any other rifle I've seen, but I think it's something one could get used to. A lifetime of pushing a rifle safety forward to fire would take some time to overcome though. The plastic stock is an overly flexible abomination with very odd texturing. The forearm is very long, which would make sense for attaching a bipod. Unfortunately, very minimal pressure will push it into contact with the barrel. I'd consider a replacement stock an absolute necessity, but I'm not sure if any are available yet. At the very least the forearm would need to be stiffened in some way.

Overall, the Alpha model seems pretty comparable to all the other budget bolt guns out there now. It probably shoots well, but comes with other deficiencies due to the price point. I haven't seen a Lux or Range model yet. They have wood or laminate stocks which have to be stiffer than the plastic on the Alpha. Those versions may be a better choice; they're certainly better looking.

Save $200 bucks and go with an American produced entry level model.

I won a CZ 600 trail in 7.62x39. This is the one with the sliding stock, detachable magazine etc. I mounted a Zeiss Diavari T 1.5-6x36 that I had laying around. I tried some Chinese bulk FMJ and wolf 123 soft points.
Accuracy: great! Especially for cheap ammo
Range: I can consistently hit a 10” plate at 300 yds from the bench
Ergonomics: poor. This is somewhat to be expected with a collapsible stock. But also the safety is too far forward when your hand is on the grip. Lastly I’m left handed and the bolt is only right. The bolt is a little gritty and needs to be worked fast
Trigger: amazing- easily externally adjusted
Weight: she’s a little on the heavy side weighing 7.1 pounds with optic and rings. This sounds light until you load the magazine and add a suppressor.

Which model did you handle? They have I think 4 different configurations?

Also, for others that could know better: there was a safety recall for this rifle.

If I understood correctly, it was designed to be with interchangeable barrels, but there was a safety issue with this feature, so if I am not mistaken this feature was blocked, or removed... something like that. I wonder is it still like that?
