Has anyone had custom cowboy boots made from their Cape buffalo? Starting to look into it and how much leather would be needed. I reached out to a couple companies today about it, but I figured no harm in asking y’all as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Not buffalo but I’ve got two pairs from alligators I’ve harvested. Used Loveless in OK, outstanding job and very satisfied.

Sorry to hear that, good quality

I've followed this thread for two years - very informative and something I would be interested in if I get to hunt a buff. Read to the end to see reviews on cowboy as well as hunting boots.

I am also wanting to get a pair of boots made from my cape buffalo hide that should be arriving this week. I talked to "Republic" boot company at the Dallas convention, and they seemed to make good boots, but I have no reviews available for you. I am watching this thread to see other ideas.

Meyer Ranch Bootmakers in Houston made two pairs of elephant boots for me over 25 years ago. Both styles looked like Dr Martin, 10 hole lace ups. I wore the first pair on daily basis until they were stolen. The second pair, I got as a replacement pair about 4 or 5 years later and still were them on an occasion. Mark Meyer, real nice guy, owns the business and use to be regular at the SCI shows not sure about now as its been about 14 years since I been to one.

Yes.

James Leddy Boots made both custom western boots and a pair of safari boots for me from my buff hide.. I have been super happy with both the quality of the work and the turn around time.. AND the price is better than any other place I looked at (probably shopped a dozen options)..

This was a regret of mine, I did not keep the back skin. I wish I had and had boots made with it was not thinking about it at that moment. Now I have an excuse to go again.

How much leather did they need? Looking at having a few euro mounts and leather tanned at TCI in Zim. It’s $10/sq ft for the leather so was also curious how much they’d need for boots. Abilene is about 3hrs, just need to find some time now to run out there.

I got both a pair of western boots and a set of safari boots and it took less than 1/4 of my cape buff hide..

thanks for your reply bob , is it feasible to build a 444 on a P14/M17 , or is the no4 enfield easier to build? i know where i can buy a lothar walther barrel in 44, 1-38 twist , but i think with a barrel crown of .650" the profile is too light .
