I just spent a month overseas and finally at home after a very long flight. Of course, I needed a negative Covid test 24 hours before the flight.

I used BinaxNOW Covid-19 test remotely guided by Abbot labs. All you need is an internet connection, a smart phone/table and of course the test kit.

Basically, one downloads their app, completes one's information and then connects remotely to a test administrator. The test administrator scans the test QR code, one's id and then guides one through the test process. Within minutes one gets the test results via email. Screenshot it and one is good to go. Much more convenient than trying to find a place 24 hours before the flight.

Anyone heard one way or another if the US is going to extend the testing requirement at the end of this month?

It's in the news today. Anyone know if results of the realtime rapid test kits will do for travel? ('Have a pile of test kits at home from friend in the medi-business.) 'Just show them the swab at boarding!

Looks like your in Arizona, fly into Mexico and walk across the border. They just extended the mask mandate another 2 weeks so who knows.

Wow, sounds pretty simple. Just to play the "devils advocate", how would the test administrator know it's actually you being tested and not someone else who recently had a negative test result? Doesn't really matter I guess if it's an accepted testing procedure.

He scans your id as I mentioned and looks at you on the camera. Then, watches you do the swabbing and place the swab in the test card.

That is a wrk around, lol. I’ll still choose to avoid Mexico. I just saw that extension as well. Damn sad…

anyone have problems with airlines or anyone accepting that binax self testing for proof?

OK, face time call then. Now it makes sense. Thanks!

Be sure you have a reliable internet connection.
The app actually checks your Internet connection as well prior to connecting. For most that are traveling overseas, while there might not be Internet in the bush, most hotels or Internet cafes at point of departure do have somewhat reliable Internet.

I think we will use this test on our trip. That is if it’s still required in June. Frontier has Wi-Fi so we should be good to do it.

Sounds good. I'm just wondering what type of test Qatar requires? Will they accept a rapid test or a PCR since we deplane in Doha? Hopefully, no tests will be required by then?

It’s the country not the airline and it has been PCR going and antigen coming back. A moving target so we won’t worry about it unting a few weeks out.

For those going through Joburg, there was a testing tent set up near the airline check in counters. Results in 15 minutes

I was told about the test at JNB. Results are quick. Do you know the cost? Last year I paid $70.00.

Thanks for info. I leave in 4 weeks. Return mid June. Who knows what regs will be by then.

We tested in Port Elizabeth before boarding the plane to Joberg. The results were emailed and texted to us but both our phones malfunctioned in Johannesburg. No matter what we did we couldn't access our accounts. Finally we said piss on it and went to the testing tent for our second nasal raping for the day. I think it was 150 Rand ($10) and as mentioned before, had the results in about 10 minutes. I'm glad they were there!

How long was the wait to get tested? Was there a line?

No wait at all... At least while I was there. In fact there were 2 different companies offering tests.
