The hunting season is over in the rain forest, I am back home for some weeks before going to the savannah of Benin. I have to say that it was a new experience for me to walk the equatorial forest, the environment was new. Even if I knew the forest galleries of CAR (which is a small forest), I was a bit lost !!! the trees are tall (40 to 70m), the sun does not go through, the humidity is high. When you stand motionless in front of the green forest, you ask yourself: what am I doing here? How can we go through? how can we see something alive? how can we hunt? Suddenly you hear the voice of the Baka pygmies taking you out of you anxiety. Those little guys drive you in their own world and you start to see tracks, to hear the grey parrots, the hornbills, the chimps and the red tail monkeys up in the trees. Later they show you the gorillas... When they pick up a fresh bongo tracks, you have to follow them, this is your mission!!! you go through the jungle... not as easy as them but you are just happy to be able to do it, quite a achievement. Finally you realize that you can hunt... when you hear the dogs barking at a bongo you get such a rush of adrenalin, you forget everything and you just go. You go as fast as you can and when you see the orange ghost you are overwhelmed by your emotion.
One of the best experience I ever had, believe me.
Here are some pictures of the trophies we got and some trail cam pictures.
