I had a banner year ...

BH Sheep, MZL Bull Elk, MZL Buck Deer (2nd choice), Rifle Bear (2nd choice), and Rifle Doe Antelope (2nd choice)

The two tags I thought I was in extremely good position for was my 1st choice buck with 4 points and my 1st choice antelope with 10 points.

Certainly didn't expect the Sheep or the Elk tag. Last year, 1 of 11 people drew the elk tag with 3 points. This year I was 1 of 2 people who drew it with 2 points.

Guess it just goes to show the years you're expecting a particular tag and not another is just that .... a guess!

Here's to one heck of a September and 1st week of October!!!!

Good luck everyone on filling your tags!!!

Very nice. Just a deer tag for me in the Craig area. What units are you hunting?

Drew ML buck deer GMA 20 and rifle bear GMA 6 (several areas actually).

Wow! Great draw. I accumulated points

Those are awesome results! Good job. They told me to keep playing next year. You will be busy this fall.

I wanted one specific deer tag and didn't get it. So it looks like OTC elk for me.

Archery either sex in unit 110 and Rifle Pronghorn Buck in unit 120. Both first choice and both drawn with 1 point.

Also got a pronghorn pref point and my 13th pref point for elk.

Wow @graybird, you did have a remarkable draw. You're going to have a fun year!

I drew an either sex elk tag for the first rifle season in GMU 13 near Craig. It will be my first elk hunt and I'm beyond excited.

Adam, don’t know what your plan is, but be prepared to hunt the highest area you can for the first rifle season. Unless a very early deep snow pushes them down. At least that’s my experience.
Learn to use a cow call. Sometimes it’s still possible the first rifle season to call in a bull. If you make a lot of noise walking, the cow call seems to help keep from spooking elk. They can make a lot of noise themselves walking. Also make sure you hunt into the wind or thermals because you can smell their musky scent a ways off. Just some things for you to consider. I’ve hunted them maybe 35 years and lucky to have taken 17.
Best of luck in your first elk hunt!

Thanks for the tips! I am hoping the weather cooperates to get the elk moving. I'll be hunting with a friend that used to live in Craig and he knows several people that will let us hunt on their land. I have a cow call and am having fun and annoying my wife and dog practicing. I've not been to Colorado before and I'm looking forward to being out there no matter what, but I'm hoping we can get into some elk.

Wow guys the people I am talking to here in Loveland didn’t draw anything?
I put in for four tags I now have twenty points and a new Hoyt bow but nothing to hunt this fall.
My only option is to go over to the west side of the state for an over the counter tag!!
Give me some help how you are getting these tags. Deer, Elk, Antelope, and Moose!
Tom

Tom are you saving up all those elk points for the northwest trophy area? I gave up on that, mountain goat, bighorn sheep and moose. Nearly 71 and I figure with the lottery system we now have, I’m better off paying to go out of state. Not sure I want to trust my heart to hold up to the high altitude for sheep and goats anyway:(!

We should get back together some time and talk about a hunt?

Well I am thinking that I just need to try for the Mountain Lion. I don’t think I am going to try for that with my new bow.
Maybe my new Ruger 375 or 300 WM.

I’d enjoy trying to call one in for you, if you cover my back;)! I’ve got my license for this year.

I just ordered three more boxes of 375 Ruger 270 Superformance so I will be ready for this fall.
I just need to get the website work done!
