With over two decades of experience hunting the expanse of the African Leopard's Southern Range, my team is proud to offer what we believe is the ultimate leopard hunting adventure.
Nestled on the captivating East coast of Africa, Mozambique stands out as an exceptional destination for an authentic, free-range African Safari. Here, the absence of extensive infrastructure transports you back in time to the genuine Africa immortalized in the writings of renowned authors such as Harry Manners, Ian Nyschens, Brian Marsh, and many others. The hunting model in this area serves as a direct pillar for conservation, placing significant value on wildlife that might otherwise be perceived solely as a source of sustenance, or black-market commodity.
Our safaris unfold on vast, wild tracks within Government-designated hunting concessions, encompassing three primary ecological varieties.
Each ecoregion not only poses its own unique challenges but also offers opportunities to engage with a variety of endemic game species.
Southern Miombo Woodlands:
Dominated by majestic Granite Mountain formations, these woodlands present a proud landscape, offering a distinct challenge and ample opportunities for encountering other endemic game species like Crawshaw’s Zebra, Lichtenstein Hartebeest and Johnstons Impala.
Coastal Evergreen Forests:
Enriched with towering native hardwood timber, pockets of open savannas, and seasonal swamps, these forests provide a rich and diverse backdrop for other game like Suni, Grey/Red/Blue Duiker, Oribi, Roosevelt Sable and Livinstone Eland.
Mixed Mopane Combretum Woodlands:
Challenged by moderate rainfall, these savanna woodlands boast a rich variety of hardy tree species which thrive in well-drained soils, plus golden grasses which seasonally change the aspect of the environment. Southern Greater Kudu, Blue Wildebeest, Burchell’s Zebra and Spotted Hyena are regular additions to any safari.
Among all the dangerous African game, the leopard stands unmatched in its reputation as the most elusive and coveted trophy. Many seasoned hunters have been outwitted by this cunning predator, only to find their determination renewed to conquer Africa’s stealthy and formidable feline.
PANTHER TRACKERS was established by Gavin Lipjes, a master houndsman who has pursued leopards across their vast southern range, from the eastern coast of Mozambique to the western expanses of Namibia. The name Panther Trackers pays homage to the leopard’s scientific name, Panthera pardus, highlighting our unique expertise in tracking these majestic, rosetted cats.
Mastering the art of leopard hunting demands not just skill but years of diverse experience in understanding leopard behaviour across varied terrains. The key lies in thinking like the cat itself—a blend of relentless tracking, learned strategies, trial and error, and an unwavering passion for the hunt. This fusion of knowledge and dedication breeds professionals who are determined and capable of delivering top-tier results.
Two distinct approaches are employed in the pursuit of leopards: Bait and Blind hunting or using Scent Hounds. Each method has its advantages, and we tailor the choice to the hunter’s goals, preferences, and abilities. At PANTHER TRACKERS, we offer a straightforward, single-rate pricing structure with no additional houndsman fees.
Bait and Blind Hunting appeals to hunters who enjoy the suspenseful, reactive nature of waiting for a perfectly timed encounter. Success hinges on deep familiarity with the patterns of leopard activity and an intimate understanding of their preferred habitats. With patience, skill, and unwavering confidence, a hunter is poised to claim a mature, rosetted male.
Hunting with Scent Hounds is our specialty—a proactive, traditional approach that combines relentless tracking with extensive knowledge of leopard ecology. This immersive hunt leverages the skill of our expert canine team and a refined interpretation of leopard behaviour. Over a 14-day hunting period, our goal is to help hunters achieve the ultimate reward: the harvest of the most mature male leopard.
Join PANTHER TRACKERS and step into a complete world of leopard hunting, where passion meets precision, and each day promises adventure.
