I might be pushing the expertise of this forum...but let's see:

In THE LAST 6 MONTHS, has anyone successfully processed an application for a Class 2 weapon (suppressor, SBR,etc) under a Gun Trust?

I inquired on making such a move today and was informed that this particular Class3 dealer had not successfully been able to get such an application passed in 8 months or so, but that individual applications, made in the owners name, we're not having problems.

He said Obama made an exec. order slashing the ability to do this through a gun trust.

Anyone know anything on this?

My son is more knowledgeable on this subject, so I'll check with him. We do have an application in the system right now for a suppressor through a trust, so I hope Obama hasn't shut that down. I've heard that if the dealer files through the E-file system it speeds the whole process up. Now you have me worried about my suppressor, I'll check on it tomorrow.

I'm surprised others have no input here.

My update is that I talked with 3 other Class 3 dealers, here is the summary:

Dealer 1. Wait times are 18 months. He is letting his class 3 license expire. With wait times that long the money to be made vs the headache isn't worth it.

Dealer 2. Forget the trust, file under personal.

Dealer 3. Trust e-files are currently taking 4-6 months...personal taking 12 months. The congress is supposedly supposed to look at the gun trust loophole on June 8th. He is unsure what would happen on a trust application that is in process and not cleared by the time, and if, Congress or the Pres would instigate a change in policy.

Conclusion? WTF? I'm not overly confident in anything as all 4 dealers have fairly differing opinions!

I must confess ignorance of this gun trust you speak of. I understand that a Class III dealer usually deals in fully automatic guns where legal, not in my state though so we have none. Suppressors were made legal in my state a couple of years ago, but I have no desire to have one so know nothing about transferring one. Ignorance is bliss you know!!

Just moving to DM. Yes, please ask your friend if he knows somebody who might be willing to support a persistent hunt in the snow.
