I'm looking for a scope to sit upon my MO3 in .375 and have narrowed things down to three choices.
All are similar in price and all have an illuminated reticle so I would be interested in any opinions on the good and the bad or why you would choose one or the other.

The choices are:

Leupold VX-R 4-12x40.
Steiner Ranger 2-8x42.
Leica Eri 2.5-10x42.

What are you using it for?
If DG I’d use the lowest power one at 2x. I prefer a 1x with illuminated reticle. IMO, 4x minimum is too high power for the low end.
I use a Leupold VX-6 1-6x on my 375 and it works well for 90% of what I have used it for. I do have QR rings and carry a 2-12x which I used for croc. It worked well for that.

But if I only had 1 scope, it would be a 1x on the low end and 4, 5, or 6 on the top end. Of course a 1-8 Swarovski if it were illuminated would work too.

In my experience with dark animals and dark days you are doing right wanting an illuminated reticle. It has helped me a lot on bear, buff and night critters.

Good luck with your decision!

It will be used in Africa for anything from a Dik-Dik to a Buffalo.
I may get a dedicated DG scope for the calibre at some point and team the above choices with a .300 WinMag barrel for the same rifle.

Leupold VX3i 1.5x5 with heavy duplex if one inch rings. 1-4 thru 1-8 30mm euro scope if 30mm rings.

The Leica ERi would get my vote. I have that same scope on a Rem Model 7 in 260 Rem and at 2x it is very effective on running game. Very good field of view and optics are on par with Swarovski Z3/Z5 line. Illumination is a must for me and my eyes.

I'm in the same boat with a BRNO 602 I picked up on this forum.

If DG is on the cards I would suggest a starting magnification of 1....
If only PG then whichever you prefer.
Go for the best quality scope you can afford.

Also suggest if DG is on the menu getting a quality set of QD mounts.

For DG I would prefer something starting at 1 and no more than 2 power. Top end magnification does not need to be over 8 power unless varmit shooting. After all on 8 power something at 800yards looks the same as something at 100 with the naked eye. So I would sacrifice top end magnification for low end start point. Just my 2 penny's worth.

Adrian, I am not sure, but I think you may run into issues mounting the Leupold VX-R 4-12 on your Mauser MO3. On my Win M70 .375 H&H there is not enough distance between the magnification adjustment ring and the front bell of the scope to fit this particular scope rings between. Here is a dimensional drawing of the scope which shows a distance of 13cm (dimension B). If it does fit, you may not have much room to adjust the position of the scope for eye relief.

I am with others who have suggested sticking with something with a low end magnification of between 1 & 2x. Swaro, Leica, S&B, Leupold in about 1-6x.
Let us know what you end up with and nice rifle! (y)

Thank you for all input so far Gents, much appreciated.

With the Mauser M03 system you have to use their mounts which are quick release.

Good point and well made, thank you for pointing this out. I can see it will be a problem. I'll measure my mounts later today and see what the distance between the inside of the rings is but I suspect it will be the same as yours which will narrow my choice down further.
Many thanks for this information.

I have a leupold vx3 2.5-8x32 or 36 on my 375. Clients use this a lot for any pg and buff etc. works very well for all
U do need the lowest possible magnification at times and 4 is too much on the low end
Illum reticle is a big bonus for sure

I use a Leica 1.5-10x42 on my 375. The 10 power on the top end isn't really necessary for any shooting I do with it, but the 1.5 is nice to have on the low end. I also use the illuminated reticle.

Anyone with experience with the Vortex Razor HD LH 1.5-8x32 scope? Thinking about mounting it on a Ruger No 1 in 375 H&H. Understand is has the Razor glass and reviews are very good. Very generous 4" eye relief with a very forgiving eye box at 8X. Only downside is no illumination, which would be nice for my eyes but folks seem to think the G4 reticle does a good job in low light.

I was planning on mounting an Aimpoint H30 or 9000L but Europtic has these on sale, as well as the 2-10x40 version at nearly 40% off.
