Cartridges you just hate

Never explored these. When I was younger I was not interested in them or did not know them. Now it would be just couple more calibers I would need to buy stuff for.
I have similar thoughts. I did read up on the .358win at some point and probably saw reviews on the .338Federal. A mate had one for a short time.

Basically I have tried to stick to common chamberings that are well supported by factory ammo or cases and dies available everywhere.

The first less common cartridge was a 7mm-08 and I later took on a .280ai.

But I do consider the expense of having to much variety and keeping track of of reloading multiple cartridges

The .264 Win Mag originally utilized a two-step bullet (two different diameters) in an engineering attempt to keep down operating pressures and then seated deep into case body. This design required a short bullet seat (bullet throat). There are other cartridges that suffer the same short bullet seat from factory. I really dislike that factory decision. My .264 Win is built on a magnum length M700 with bullet seat cut for 140 gr with OAL the length of magazine box. I love that setup! Running 140’s at 3400 fps MOA accuracy. So, in the league with 6.5-300 Wby.

Might be the "boomer" in me but not a fan of most of the new cartridges. Love the old classics.
Me too. You’re practical minded and realize you don’t need more than what’s already available. There’s nothing new under the sun. And all these others are brought to market out of boredom , marketing schemes and even man’s desire to make things better. But not really necessary to get the job done.

@Viral_SIGness - you “despise the .30-06”…put you on an Island all your own.
Nor the 6.5 Swede. They have negligible differences. Someone trying to get rich and the folks that don’t know better buy into it. Some even bash others that don’t go along. That’s why you see naysayers talking trash. That may be part of what you find distasteful about it. It’s also a sign of how some in our society will be your neighbors, doctors, judges, voters, lawyers. That’s when it reaches disturbing. lol

previous comment was not meant for HankBuck’s comment but someone commenting on the 260Rem and 6.5 CM. Oh well.

I understand your thinking. The problem with wanting to go with.many of the classic cartridges is that you can't find a rifle that's chambered in them. I'll give you an example. 15 or 20 years ago I decided that I needed a light rifle in SS and synthetic as western Washington was too hard on my "nice" rifles in walnut and blued steel. Now try to buy a new 7x57 or 6.5x55 in any configuration. They just aren't out there. I bought a 7-08 and like it, but if I could have gotten a 7x57 you can bet I would have one.
That's why I buy old rifles and/or spend money on reamers and one of the reasons why I eventually got 6.5CM.

@Vinootz — thanks for “clarifying” that — I was a bit confused

Good afternoon,

I'm trying to get in contact with Mr Butch Searcy. I have the opportunity to buy one of his rifles chambered in 577 nitro Express however the seller does not have any of the paperwork with the information about what ammunition or bullet weight was used to regulate it. I know he is not making firearms anymore but I wanted to reach out after seeing one of your post about him.

Hi - the only (best) method of sending you the .375/06IMP data is with photographing my book notes. My camera died so the only way I can do it is with my phone. To do that, I would need your e-mail address, as this
new Android phone is too complicated to upload to my desk computer, which would be easier and to down-grade, reduce the file sizes.
Best wishes
Daryl

Hey Steve, This is Steve Washington we met at KMG last year. I am interested in your Winchester. Would love to speak with you about it. I work third shift and I cannot take a phone with me to work. Let me know a good time to call during one of your mornings. My phone is [redacted]. Live in Florida so I have to account for the time difference.
Look forward to hearing from you.
