Has anyone any experience traveling with this duffel/gear bag? Ours from Cabelas gave out after many trips and is no longer being made. This one seems well built but is heavy and possibly too large for some small planes getting in to camp. Any experience traveling with this CAMS 3.0 186L , if not , what are ya using? Thanks for your responses

5.11 is good quality stuff. I believe @WAB has used them in the past.

I know the CAMS 3.0 186-liter will exceed the 62" linear limit (length + height + depth = 76.75") imposed by most airlines. This could subject you to additional (freight) charges if they decide to push the issue. These charges can range from $25 to $100+ per flight.

The SOMS 3.0 126-liter bag is much closer (64.5") and more likely to pass under the radar.

The Mission Ready Duffel 3.0 90-liter (57.6") and AllHaula 90-liter (58") bags are well within the limits.

I bought about a hundred of the original 5.11 CAMS bags back around 2008ish. We issued them to guys deploying on our mobile security teams in Iraq for a little while.. we also bought about a hundred of the original 5.11 SOMS bags..

We primarily used the CAMS for keeping peoples individual kit (armor, helmets, radios, boots, mags, etc..etc..) organized and the SOMS bags for clothing and other personal gear.. They were pretty indestructable and took the abuse of not just deploying into and out of Iraq over and over again, but also the daily abuse of being thrown around in the back of the trucks and hauled all over hells half acre through everything from sand storms to summer heat to winter cold, etc..

I haven't toyed with the 3.0 version of the bags, but I cant imagine that 5.11 has made the product worse.. if anything the new ones look like they are compartmentalized a little better and are even more rugged than their predecessors..

If the CAMS is too big for you, consider the smaller brother (although still a big bag), the 126L SOMS..

as an aside, when the 5.11 rep was showing their "new" bags back in the say, he made sure to use their "full" name rather than their acronym name...

Carry All My Shit (CAMS) bag.... and Some Of My Shit (SOMS) bag... lol..

Just wanted to say thanks for the excellent customer service. Ordered some 9.3x62 brass and the delivery was a little short. An email through your website Contact Us link was replied to the next day with the tracking info for the correction. Good pricing coupled with great customer service will see returning customers every time. Thanks again!
