Same is currently happening here in BC. Our Gov has got an almost $6 million contract to eradicate the released fallow and local black tail deer on our Gulf Islands. Crazy as they are using "assault style" guns with 30 rd mags and silencers. All illegal for Canadians to own and NOT needed for any reason in Canada according to current Gov. A proposal for what is stated above and some type of paying resident hunters was rejected, stating resident hunters are incapable of doing job. Its a crazy would all over. Sad

But at least they are using hunters to scientifically manage grizzlies in BC. Oh, wait...no they aren't.
The animal rights fanatics are screwing up both countries, along with Europe.

Ah, Californians. The socialist black sheep of the USA

you really shouldnt insult black sheep like that...

or socialists for that matter..

:D :D :D

Along with Oregon, Washington and the whole Northeast. There is no shortage of naive, ignorant people that think "Bambi" was real. We also have to remember Canada and England.

I was born and lived in Northern California, as were my parents and grandparents. It was a nice, conservative place until the East Coast invasion of the 50s and 60s. Now I live in Washington, and it isn't any better. I wish the problem was limited to California.

Why not sell 2000 tags for $1000 each and raise a couple of million bucks. Never mind California is so well run they don’t need the extra $2 million!
Do you really think California is logical about anything? LOL

Unfortunately I know California all to well, one of my best hunting buddies lives in the Sacramento area, when he lived on Humboldt bay I went and hunted with him a few times. Probably won’t ever go back, too much BS.

I may add that I participated many, many times in non native goat eradication by air on California's San Clementi Island in the late 80's and 90's. Both US and Canadian Navies used the shore bombardment range. Our Canadian focsle pop gun got them running and the New Jerseys full broadside and over us did most or the eradication. Imagine 6, 16" HE rounds and the poor "runners".

Sometime late 90's it was deemed cruel, antis protesters outside San Diego Base, shore bombardment was then done at sea on towed targets.

Here we are 2023 and Comifornia wants to repeat using "airforce". Sort of ironic.

The selling of tags and the raising of a substantial amount of money makes way too much sense for ANY government or government agency ANYWHERE to grasp and put into play. Their other reasoning is that we sportsman would enjoy ourselves way too much while taking care of the problem. Scheduling a couple different hunt dates, like 1st and 2nd season that would bring in massive amounts of additional "bonus" moneys to the local economy as well as larger state economy with people flying in, hiring guides, DIY camps that grocery shop, buy fuel pay the larger out of state hunter license fees, stay in motels & hotels, eat at restaurants while travelling into and out of hunt area and on and on. The boon would be too great WHILE taking care of the "invasive and harmful species" instead of COSTING MONEY TO IRRADICATE it. Answer as to why not schedule extra hunting seasons is very simple...it would make waaaayyyyy to much sense for all parties involved!

"of the USA"? I have to fly there this week and like usual, I bring my passport just in case. LOL
Good idea. Corruptifornicate is not a state. They call themselves a Republic.

I recently saw a similar article and looked into hunting on Catalina Island. They do sell tags and have a fairly long season that ends on December 26.

You have to have the following (maybe more…):

Conservancy membership at the Explorer level or higher. $65+
Valid California Hunting License. (Non-resident) $204.69
Firearms Liability insurance with a minimum coverage of $500,000. I found it at $125 year
Proof of identification (Valid Driver’s License, ID, or Passport)
California state deer tag required prior to applying. (Non-resident) $343.25
Catalina Island Tag $200 per deer
Ferry $84-122 each way

From the LA Times on this:

The conservancy plans to hire sharpshooters from the nonprofit White Buffalo Inc., of Connecticut, to begin eradicating the deer next fall. Hunters will use AR-15-style rifles with nonlead bullets, so that animals that scavenge the carcasses will not be poisoned.

Hunted deer will be left where they fall because trying to airlift them from the rough, nearly inaccessible island interior would be dangerous and costly, officials said. However, conservancy and state officials intend to remove carcasses from the vicinity of Avalon and roadsides.

What a waste! 2,000 deer culled and all that meat just left for scavengers. Imagine even a fraction of it going to food banks.

Another word on California, while most states are just short of issuing fully automatic weapons, hand grenades and authorizing air assault on feral hogs California issues tags and limits the number you can buy. At one time I think it was 2, I assume this is still valid but it’s been a while since I’ve hunted there.

Hey Steve, This is Steve Washington we met at KMG last year. I am interested in your Winchester. Would love to speak with you about it. I work third shift and I cannot take a phone with me to work. Let me know a good time to call during one of your mornings. My phone is 239 565-8988. Live in Florida so I have to account for the time difference.
Look forward to hearing from you.
