Hunted
All 6 Continents
The DSC and the Western Outdoor Expo auction hunts recently ended. Anyone make a good purchase? FWIW..........a fur coat valued at $28,000 sold for $41K, and a deer hunt, that could be bought off of the website for $3000 went for north of $5K.............but some good deals too........................FWB

I glanced at the auction a few hours ago. Didn't buy anything. It looked like domestic hunts and accessories were going over list. Intercontinental hunts seemed to be needing bidders.

Did you get anything?

Seems like prices were higher than usual on a lot of auction hunts this year. I was in pursuit of a couple of different Rocky Mountain Bighorn tags but was "out" before the auctions ever went live. Several tags set new record highs, so obviously there are some hunters out there willing to pony up.

We got two awesome deals at the auctions this year..

3 day dove hunt in Argentina.. all inclusive for 3 hunters... $650...

We also picked up a 3 day sika stag hunt in Ireland for a hunter and an observer for a freaking steal...

Still have 2 trips from last year to take this year, so didn't bid.
I looked at an Argentina dove hunt going cheap until I saw what shotgun shells will run, easily $1500 per day ($16 per box and 1500 to 2000 shots a day...)
I enjoy shooting but not that much $$$

$15 a box is pretty normal for Argentina... 3 years ago when we last went they were $12.50 a box..

I know a lot of guys shoot 20-30 boxes a day... we never got close to that the last time we went though.. on average i shot about 10 boxes and that was plenty...

An extra $150 a day x 3 days.. not really a big deal to me on the scope of things..

I find 3-4 days of dove is more than enough for me... for Argentina hunts we typically plan 2-3 days on the front or back of the hunt and enjoy Buenos Aries or go sight seeing etc ... beautiful country, incredible food, wonderful people... always a great time...

Some of the sheep tags went double what they did last year. But what always amazes me is the price of elk and mule deer tags. 285k for a mule deer!!

Ya, I thought domestic hunts were high compared to other years. Covid has people staying close to home. Some good deals for an African newbie though.....maybe not better than some sponsors here, but still pretty good...........FWB

I did not buy anything this year. Two merchandise items that I was bidding on, one went for retail (more than sale price) and the other for more than retail.

Of the hunts, today I slept thru the Fallow Deer hunt in Spain. It went for $1400. Someone got a great deal.

That said I will be looking at the DSC South Texas auction coming up in April.

Was watching that one closely too... I think between the Ireland sika & Argentina dove hunts we picked up already.. plus the Alaska caribou/salmon combo we have planned.. plus the annual pilgrimage to Bos en Dal that we do... I was already booked pretty solid through 2021 and 2022... so we passed...

I did think that fallow would have gone a lot higher though...and I’d love an excuse to spend a few weeks in Spain again... we loved our last trip there...

I have a couple that I'm going on this year to Africa but I would have to agree that a lot of them are going for high prices this year. Good for the clubs though and it's a good cause. Did anyone notice the Arizona state wide deer went for $315,000 at the Western Hunting Expo?

Is that a typo? $285,000 USD??? Two hundred eighty five Thousand dollars???
That's more than my house!

If you are going to Argentina to shoot doves, the last thing you want to do is count shells. Budget for the shooting. In Cordoba, I have shot a 1,000 rounds a day - 2,000 would be almost impossible. In BA Provence shooting ducks, doves, and perdiz, 10 boxes or so would be a lot. If you get a deal on the hunt, then shells should be an easy investment.

I find that I usually benefit the seller when I do that, hahahahaha.
Indeed this is very true but if one has a "no-one will outbid me" mentality then tossing in a bottle can really cause a melt down of that confirm bid key...The joy is there until the hangover wears off and your sitting with a $300k deer tag. Or better yet a $240 1lb bottle of IMR powder.

Picked up a Argentina Red Stag hunt for 2022.
Hoping the Canadian border opens up before September. Have a moose/black bear hunt that I picked up at last years auctions.

The Antelope Island deer tag has gone for well over $400,000 in the past, so at 285K it was a steal. In fact, with the Arizona deer tag going for $315K an easy $600,000 plus $20,000 commission and $53,000 outfitting would have gotten you both tags................of course, you'd still need a tip or two.........FWB

Everyone always thinks about the worst thing that can happen, maybe ask yourself what's the best outcome that could happen?

Do you have any cull hunts available? 7 days, daily rate plus per animal price?
