Good day AH community!

Once you've hunted a cape buffalo you'll realize why its such an addictive hunt! If you could bottle the feeling of your first buffalo and sell it you'd most definitely be a wealthy man! That being said its not always financially feasible to hunt bulls, that is why the Buffalo Cow Hunt is such an attractive option. We believe we have one of the finest Buffalo cow hunts on offer in South Africa for 2021. The hunting area is absolutely massive (in excess of 57 000 acres!!) and we will be hunting self sustaining herds.

They are truly a noble adversary and its for this reason we choose to conduct our hunts to the highest standard. Hard hunting on foot by taking the freshest tracks from the day before. The days are long with them consisting mainly of with sweeping roads, checking waterholes for likely tracks and hunting. A decent level of fitness is required for this hunt as you can easily cover up to 15km on days with lots of walking, and on some days a quick break from the tracks and a bush lunch will be the order of the day. The hunting is fair chase and we target old cows as a preference. The cows we are hunting are clever and this promises to be a fantastic hunt! This hunt is available for 2022.

How does the cow hunt compare with a bull hunt from an experiential point of view? Your friend, Brian

Hi Brian,

If you do it where we will be conducting the hunt it will in theory and practice be no different to a bull hunt. The only advantage to the cow hunt is that the likelihood of getting a cow herds tracks as a pose to a bulls tracks is more likely. Thus we have more options per hunting day. Tracking is also often easier as there are more than 1 animal. But their senses are just as tuned in and you will still need to get in close to seal the deal. Often we will try and call them in closer if we feel we can't make anymore progress. That's when it gets really exciting!

Kind regards,
Dempsey Bayly & Michael Sippel
