Hello,
Brand new member so apologies if this is incorrect forum to post this in.
Run a big game walking safari company in Tanzania and although very proficient with the use of my rifles, my gunsmith knowledge is not great (The rifles for us are purely defensive tools on walking safaris)
I posses a ruger M77 in .416(Rigby) Caliber produced in 1991. Have recently cracked the stock and am seeking replacement. Have checked serial number on Ruger website for exact model details but all i get is M77 Model 07807. I am aware that all sorts of variations occur with this model (Magnum/Mark II etc etc) and I know this weapon is no longer in production. Ebay and other USA online stores have plenty stocks but dredging through them is difficult to find the stock I require - I am simply assuming logically that one M77 stock does not fit all calibers - am seeking info from the pros if anyone knows the exact specs/model of this stock so that I can browse and purchase replacement. Thankfully my wife is currently in the states so getting it to her will be easy but I only have a 2 week window with which to do this.

Any help would be appreciated on how and where best to purchase a replacement.

Thanks so much.

Moli

Numrich may have what you are looking for -

They have new old stocks of the Ruger safari magnum. Might want to give them a call etc.

Where abouts in Tanzania do you operate?
Ruaha National Park. Ok so u advise I am just looking for bog standard M77 MAGNUM STOCK?? Trouble is I am unsure if stock specs change according to caliber eg between 375 and 416 but the shops/ebay never mention the caliber.

I believe the only 416 R chambered by Ruger was the RSM, the barrel channel on all three are the same, only differences should be the barrel band sling, is it through the stock or exposed on the barrel? Order accordingly

put a wanted ad on guns international. surely someone took the factory stock of theirs and replaced it with a Boyd's or HS Precision, McMillan, etc. good luck! i repaired a stock once that cracked at the pistol grip (Steyr 375). drilled the little holes, put pins in it, dampened, used gorilla glue, kept it compressed tight w/ duct tape during cure period-it was the PHs at the time-did it in camp. Worked so well i eventually bought it and entirely restored the rifle.

is Numrich still in Woodstock/Saugerties NY?? I haven't been there since the '80s, drove past years back but they were closed.

Hi Bullthrower338 - Great info!! Mine is exposed as in the pic attached.View attachment 462917
is the sling swivel attached (screwed in, etc.) to the stock or just it just protrude through a hole (float). that migh be a great accuracy aide

The front sling swivel pushes in all the way through the stock and screws into the barrel itself (almost acting like a fourth screw to hold the rifle to the stock)

Numrich had some - the thing you should double check before ordering is there are 2 different styles of stock for the RSM - the front two holes are drilled at different widths.

You might want to ensure there is a bit of space behind the tang. The tang pushing against the stock during recoil might cause a split. Make sure the screws are properly torqued.
