Boris Johnson resigns as PM and Party Leader of the Conservatives, will the Colonial Policies regarding rural life and anti hunting be left in the crushed pile of catasteophical impacts he had on the globe and society of his reign and to be forgotten upon with a start for many people and countries without a British " opinion" ?

"Colonial policies regarding rural life .............." I'm not woke enough to translate what that is supposed to mean.

Basically Johnson (we suspect largely guided by his wife) was very anti trophy hunting. There was talk of a law banning the import of hunting trophies to the UK. This has been called really criticised by some countries such as Namibia and Botswana. It's sometimes referred to as colonialist as it appears certain developed nations are trying to restrict the usage / development options for developing nations by trying to influence how they utilise their natural resources.

We (people residing in former British colonies) call it “Neocolonialism“. Basically, it’s the disturbing fact that they’re still trying to (be it directly or indirectly) control what we do in our countries (such as with our fauna) … even after we stopped being under their rule.

Question for our cousin Brits - Overall, big picture wise, is it good or bad that he is leaving? As an American it sounds bad that a conservative is gone but I don't know anything about his politics or the latest news in Great Britain these days. I don't trust much from American news anymore. Thanks.

I believe that in British politics, conservative and liberal have opposite meanings than they do in the U.S.
Where's a Brit when you need one ???

@BRICKBURN ....Perhaps Mr. Bean can replace Boris.....and do a better job. While I'm not a Brit, and therefore don't technically have a dog in the hunt, I can't help but smile when these elitist go down. Boris, Pelosi, AOC and many others pass laws for you and me....such as Covid lockdowns and masks, Green energy.....all the while they party on our dollar (or Pound). Laws that don't apply to them. They are above it......FWB

At the moment not sure whom will replace him. But doubtful they will be sympathetic to conservation & hunting. They are all self serving

I actually understand. The woke community on this side of the Atlantic throws around the word "colonial" to denigrate any accomplishment of the European founders of the eventual United States. To praise those accomplishments such as our modern republican form of government or capitalist economic system, is to exhibit "colonialism."

Not really. Conservative right side of the spectrum, liberal / Labour more left. What's a bit different is where the centre is.

So, in the UK we don't have a presidential system - the prime minister is the leader of the political party with the most Members of Parliament (MP). (He doesn't have a direct electoral mandate like the US president)

So, the next Prime Minister will be a Conservative Party MP. He will be chosen by the Conservative party. (This is what happened when John Major took over from Margaret Thatcher and Gordon Brown took over from Tony Blair).

There could in theory be a General Election if a majority of MPs from all parties vote for one but this very unlikely. The Next General Election is scheduled for 2 years time. (If not called sooner, they happen every 5 years).

Hope that helps.

My view is Boris as PM was a mixed bag. Got a Brexit done which needed to happen (didn't vote for it myself but being a democracy we should listen to plebicites). Responded well to Covid with Vaccines and Economic stimulus but probably too slow to lock down for our population density. Did well on Ukraine but ongoing relations with the EU could be handled better. I suspect also he isn't good at unifying the Conservative party so that's not so good (And some dumb things like party-gate and advisors haven't helped).

As long as there are woke libtards breathing our precious oxygen there will be no politician in favor of our way of life.

This is merely a poorly disguised refusal by our parliamentary system to carry out a clear instruction from the people

little men trying to undermine an instruction by the British people to free ourselves from a socialist, protectionist EU state

there is an “enemy at the wire” in the form of China in the ascendency and a KGB run, nuclear powered organised crime gang in the Kremlin. A geriatric fool in charge in the USA and infeebled EU that failed to plan a suitable energy security strategy

And yet we have some egotistical tossers that are happy to undermine the British Gov at 1 second to midnight!!

Little late but a good video that’s worth watching
Well, well. Maybe the US should listen up. We are way overdue for a good house cleaning. The big thing lacking is spine, guts and balls to do anything. Lot of hot air but no action.

Hope that helps.

What is the general political position on (trophy)hunting?

From present perspective in media it seams that conservatives (Boris) are against trophy hunting, and I presume labor party is then pro hunting? (or pro gun) Or not?

Is it all upside down, when compared to USA? (Where republicans are pro gun, and democrats anti gun)

Hi Jay,

Hope you're well.

I'm headed your way in January.

Attending SHOT Show has been a long time bucket list item for me.

Finally made it happen and I'm headed to Vegas.

I know you're some distance from Vegas - but would be keen to catch up if it works out.

Have a good one.

Mark
