Background to stock: UPS damaged the stock in shipping to an AH member. The stock was believed to be cracked and checkering flattened. But when I got the stock back it only had very slight damage. I took it to my stock builder who said it was not cracked but had a small chip in the ebony end. He is cleaning up the checkering and smoothing out the unseen chip in the ebony. It should be ready to go soon.

My options:
1. Sell the stock and stick with my custom M70 collection. I love M70 pre-war and pre-64 rifles.
2. Buy a 375 H&H barrel and use it as my travel rifle. I have two custom pre-war M70 375 H&H rifles now.
3. Buy a 223 barrel and just shoot it. I don't have a 223 bolt action rifle, only have a 22-250.
4. Have a 404J barrel built for the stock. Seems really light for 404J. I don't own anything bigger than 375 H&H. Will this stock hold up to a 404J.
5. Trade for M70 action for future builds. I want to build a M70 416, 404, or 458 rifle.
6. Just let it sit in my safe. A waste of a rare and beautiful stock.
7. Give it to a friend. I am not beyond giving it to my son or one of my close friends.

If you post pictures of it, you will probably get better answers. IMHO

Sell/trade for M70 action for future build. I’ve started selling off the rifles I like and trying to focus on (and spend more time shooting) the ones I really love.

Sounds like another M70 is what you really want…

Here's a photo of Tony receiving that Shaw & Hunter award at the 1970 annual EAPHA Dinner Dance. Tony Dyer, then EAPHA President and Princess (Sunny) von Auersperg presented it. I also attended the event.

Good Afternoon,
How firm are you on your Dakota 416? I am highly interested but looking at a few different guns currently.

Best,
BJ

What is the minimum you would take.
