The article and video claim this is the biggest lion pride ever seen in Kruger. I'm skeptical, however it's a neat video.

This pride hangs out around Satara in Kruger.

There are 9 sub adult males in the pride, including the "white"/ light colored one. 2014 for the cubs IIRC, easy to see the scruffy manes when they walk by in the video. Big as their moms.

If they end up in a large coalition they'd be formidable but its not the first time a huge coalition started out. There is a propensity towards large males coalitions especially in western APNR/Kruger system. I think Mapogos where 9 when they started and quickly became 6 then 5 when they took over a huge tract of Sabi Sands. I think Majingalanes where more than the 4 too first starting out, I think 6; and just recently all 4 died of old age within months of each other.

There was another white male in Ngala Reserve, but not sure if that one is still around or not; haven't been keeping up. That area is in Timbavati a name some might recognize; they hunt there, APNR property.

All the big cats have lots of facebook and cat/predator groups that use tourist pics to track prides/individuals/coalitions. They track spot patterns on Leopard, Hyena, Wild Dog, and Lion pride dynamics.

Lots of large pride in the Mara system in Southern Kenya that are documented. Oloololo's are 15 or 16 right now. Sausage tree pride was up there but they split. Food resources determine pride size and if to big they will split into break away prides. Nkhumas in central Sabi Sands are mostly females; 4 adults,6 female sub adults and 1 male sub adult. Chances are they will split into 2 prides in near future.

google 'white lion cub Satara' and you'll get plenty of hits and videos to watch.

Hi Jay,

Hope you're well.

I'm headed your way in January.

Attending SHOT Show has been a long time bucket list item for me.

Finally made it happen and I'm headed to Vegas.

I know you're some distance from Vegas - but would be keen to catch up if it works out.

Have a good one.

Mark
