I need your guys recommendations. I have just decided to start using a brake and don’t want to further damage my ears. When hunting I typically do not wear ear pro due to not having the time to put them on. Having them on all the time limits what I can hear all the hours leading up to the minutes that count.

Not cheap, but worth it. https://tetrahearing.com/

Or you could have them make you just a set of custom plugs without anything in them for much less.

I thought "not cheap" would be like 400-500
I had sticker shock myself. There are several out there like this, but I'll say that these are top of the line. You won't be disappointed.

Look at offerings from sordin and peltor…

Pricey.. but not outrageous…

And extremely high quality… both in terms of rugged reliability and decibel reduction…

Also comfortable…

If you are only hunting in the US, why not just get a suppressor? With the new Eform system it's looking like a under 90 day wait time. Look at the KGM line of cans, they reduce recoil as much as a brake. Depending on what you are shooting 30cal and under R30 is like 1k. They also have a R30k that is shorter and more effective at recoil reduction for a little less.

You will cause hearing damage with a brake. You are right for trying to figure out the plan ahead of time. When out of the country or using a big bore 3M Peltor TEP-200 Ear Plug Kit is what works for me. One thing I can say about them, they will cause you to watch where you step.

I have used Walker Game Ears for years. Only issue is battery replacement.
Use them for big game, and upland bird hunting. I can hear the dogs in the glass or tall cover when l can’t see them, and hear the flush of the bird sooner.

The US regulation was recently changed to de-regulate the hearing aid industry. Already there are $100 to $500 hearing aid offers all over the Internet. I am waiting for the chaff to separate from the wheat in this market.

I think soon the shoot-specific hearing aids/suppressors will take a drastic price drop very soon.

How fast can you get those peltor plugs on?

I have a walker “noise canceling” head set and it did not deafen the shot it actually amplified it. Not sure if it was just a dud

I was thinking about doing something like this, obviously not the most effective but they are quick

I leave them in the whole hunt. Turn them on and can adjust the volume, low, med, hi.

I used to use Axil in-ear protection and decided to upgrade about a year ago. The one below is still pricey at $1,100 or so but well worth it for the extra features and rechargeable batteries (similar to Airpods with the case). I even bought a set for my significant other for when she goes shooting sporting clays. The longest I had them in was about 9 hours through a USPSA match.

That's what I like about the plugs, their case allows for wireless charging (AA batteries) they will not break the seal when you get of your gun fast. Like you said you can hear everything better.

A little more than I want to spend

I am sensitive to the subject, as I have about 40% hearing loss.

In RSA I ask my Outfitter for a rifle with supressor.

At home supressors are illegal, so I use Howard Leight Impact Sport muffs, the best I´ve tried.

What I don't seem to get about these high-end electronic ear protection do not seem to provide any more protection than a $.50 set of foam plugs - Howard Leights, depending on the version protect up to 33 db. Actually, for ultimate protection use the plugs plus a good quality set of muffs. Personally, I shoot mostly with just good foam plugs. I only use muffs when there are other rifle shooters at the range. For trap shooting, I always shoot with just plugs as muffs get in my way.

A 3db gain doubles the sound energy.
If I use 30db foamies and 30db muffs together they attenuate the sound energy at my ear drum by 33db.

Ouch !

Had an excellent classifieds transaction with JoninCO. A truly honest and standup member. I wouldn't hesitate at all to deal with him again. Thanks, J!

Hi Lance, Hope you well. I collect Mauser rifles and they are very much part of my cultural history in Africa. Would you consider selling the rifle now a year on ? I'd like to place it in my collection of Mauser rifles. Many thx

I saw where you hunted elephant with backcountry safaris in Zimbabwe.
Was looking to book an elephant hunt and wanted to know how your hunt went
and if you would recommend them.

Thanks
Mike
hi, do you know about lions hunters, leopard hunters, and crocodiles hunters of years 1930s-1950s
I'm new to Africa Hunting. I would like to purchase a Heym 450-400 double rifle. I'm left-handed but would prefer a non-canted gun. Is anyone in the community considering parting with theirs?
