Got back to the farm in Minnesota yesterday after 40 hours of travel time from Victoria Falls to Sioux Falls. Spent some quality time in several airports along the way. We all love airports, my favorite part was getting a double cheeseborger and beer at the Billie Goat Cafe at O'hare the night before last. Better than airplane food.

Here is the report.

I booked this hunt last year with the same outfitter I used for Safari #1 in 2023. I couldn't be more pleased with every aspect of the safari that they provided. I don't know the forum rules for outfitters so I won't mention them unless by pm. I can say that two sponsors on this forum helped a great deal. @TRAVEL EXPRESS and @riflepermits.com. Thank you both. I wasn't planning on going back to Africa so soon. One evening my 82 year old neighbor and I were having a drink and looking at pictures of my first safari. He said "Lets Go!" I took him to the Sports Show in Sioux Falls the next month and met with my outfitter and booked the hunt for 2025. We all hear how important is to take kids hunting, it is just as important to take your mentors hunting when they get older, so I went back sooner than I anticipated.

Flew United, they did a fine job. Landed at JoBerg around 6:00 pm. Met by the VIP service from Rifle Permits and held by the hand through baggage, customs, police station all the way to City Lodge. I know there are other places to stay at JoBerg, but I really like City Lodge. Great breakfast then met by the PH at 8:00 am for the 3 hour trip to the lodge in Limpopo. Had dinner and went out for an evening hunt. No game, but I did shoot a jackal at 245 yards.

Next day, no game in the morning. Went to a new area in the pm in search of my target animal, an Eland. We found one on a trail about half a mile away laying down. We got out and went in the bush to sneak up on him. After about a half hour we stepped out and saw him standing at about 150 yards facing us. Got the sticks out and I took a shot and missed to the left. He turned broadside and I hit him just behind the shoulder and he traveled about 100 yards and was dead. 180 grain Nosler partition was found on the far hide just behind his other shoulder. This is the only animal I've every taken that kept getting bigger the longer I was with him. Amazing animal, I couldn't have been happier.

Next day my partner took a Gemsbok and Impala. Great one shot kills.

Morning of day 4 we went to a meadow at daybreak and saw some Impala and a Tsessebe. I've never seen one before, my PH told me a bit about them and I decided to pursue. I knew it couldn't be imported to the US due to CITES rules, but was assured that they were not endangered. We put on a stalk and I shot from 240 yards. Hit in the lungs and he was hurting, another shot to the shoulder dropped him immediately. A very unique animal that I was happy to get.

Later morning my partner hit a Blesbock. After some tracking by the PH and tracker we got him back to the lodge in time for lunch. Later that pm we spotted a big Nyala at about 100 yards. My 82 year old buddy made a great shoulder shot and we celebrated a great day.

Day 5. We went to a different concession with different animals on our agenda. My buddy got a great Sable early on. Then he made a great 200 yard shot at a Blue Wildebeast. On the way back to camp for lunch we encountered two Impala. They ran to the bush and we went after them. I had an opportunity in the bush at one at about 75 yards, hit him in the lungs, he jumped and ran into the nasty stuff. We had a good blood trail and after about 50 yards saw an antelope standing broadside in the bush. I shot off hand and hit him in the lungs and he ran a bit, then another one stood up - the first one I shot at. We found the second one dead about 20 yards away and went back to trail the first one. One finishing shot and I had two Impala on my hands. I was happy since I did not get an Impala on Safari #1. Both were respectable animals.

In the afternoon we went out and saw Cape Buffalo and then two Wildebeast fighting. Several Giraffe and many other animals. It started raining so we went back to camp early. On the drive home we saw a huge male lion laying down on the road, he moved reluctantly when we got closer.

Day 6. We were after Kudo for my partner and Zebra for me. Saw a zebra around 10 am. I took a shot at about 180 yards and hit him too far back, took some tracking but we got him around 12. Went back to camp and settled in for the next part of the trip to Chobe and Victoria Falls the next day.

Can't say enough about everyone who helped us. My second trip of a lifetime.

The photos are of my animals first, then my friends.

Some very nice trophies. You can talk about outfitters in hunt reports all you like and recommend them in other threads as a client. You just can’t advertise for them.

Awesome thanks for sharing

That Eland is a proper old Bull.

Thank you. Kirabo Safaris served us well.

First you can always mention the outfitter you hunted with sponsor or not. Second congratulations on an awesome hunt with great animals!!!

Great safari and good for you taking your experienced buddy along! I bet you made him a very happy man. Good advice for all of us. Sometimes the trophy is not at the skinning shed but with the mates you bring along

First of all, I think that's awesome that you took your mentor hunting in Africa. His smile says it all! How cool.

You guys took some nice trophies. That's a proper eland! Love the nyala and sable too.

Only question now is what's next? Two hunts of PG experience...did those buff get you considering one?

Congratulations on another great trip. Lots of good trophies for both of you! Really cool that you added the extra side trips. Can we anticipate a report and pictures of those?

Congratulations.

Great trophies. Especially that eland bull.

Love that "old school" "see thru" rifle ring set up on your neighbors rifle. Don't see them much anymore. Great report and congrats on such a successful trip.

I posted more about the trip on a thread I had started last year in Before & After the Hunt forum. It is under the Second Safari Booked thread.

I posted some general info and observations about the trip, not so much about the hunting part.

Well done and good on you for taking your mentor, I'll bet it meant the world to him!

Congrats and thanks for sharing!

Congrats on your hunt and great trophies

Specially like your Eland

Nice animals. Sounds like you had a great hunt.
