AUSTRALIA: What I Normally Hunt In Australia

Nice pics, great work, Queenslander?

Did you have to post another Whelen for Bob? He’s mad for that stuff.

The barrel band on it looks good,

Guy must be a man of superior intelligence and class like all of us Whelen owners. Just hope he's loading it to it FULL potential.

A 10 year-old sambar stag with frozen turds for antlers.
Taken with my SMLE NO4 ACTION 444 Marlin loaded with 280 grain Woodleigh RNSP.
Ended up making great eating very tender.

Bob,
That doesnt look look a 10y old Sambar but more like a spiker(n)

Cperso.
I can assure you he was no spiker. He went 270 kg on the good and his teeth were well worn. He was weighed and aged by my cattle farmer mate.

Not disbeleieving you.
I've shot probably north of five hundred of Sambar in my hunting years.
Also taken scores of big mature stags and stags that were in their last season but none of those big stags had the features of the one in the photo.
Photo's can be deceiving but the lack of musle tone in the neck and overall stockyness in the body is also a usual sign of immaturity.
Would be good to see his head from a close frontal view or the scull as well as big old stags tend to have wider head shorter face. Pedicals on a really old stag will be a lot shorter too giving the antlers a look like they are just sitting on top of the scull.
Would love to see the scull of this fella(y)

Mate all I kept was the meat and the turd antlers. In the photo he has been gutted ready to hang for a week before butchering.

Chopped up the whole thing as I kept hitting the 240 character limit...
Found out the trigger word in the end... It was muzzle or velocity. dropped them and it posted.:)

2,822fps, ES 8.2
This compares favorably to 7 Rem Mag. with less powder & recoil.

*PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS FOR MY RIFLE, ALWAYS APPROACH A NEW LOAD CAUTIOUSLY!!*
Rifle is a Pierce long action, 32" 1:8.5 twist Swan{Au} barrel
{You will want a 1:8.5 to run the heavies but can get away with a 1:9}
Peterson .280AI brass, CCI 200 primers, 56.5gr of 4831SC, 184gr Berger Hybrid.

I know that this thread is more than a year old but as a new member I thought I would pass along my .280AI loading.
I am shooting F Open long range rather than hunting but here is what is working for me and I have managed a 198.14 at 800 meters.
That is for 20 shots. The 14 are X's which is a 5" circle.

Have twice tried to post something that your site canned as "SPAM" or some problem.. "Contact the Administrator"... Not sure why even the "Contact" button would not send my comment so you only received my query but not the content in question. I'll see if I can get it to you this way... NOPE I use a VPN and perhaps that is causing me grief...
