I really do not like computers and the trust we place in them.
With that said, is anyone using AI technology to help select hunts, areas, equipment or whatever?
Do you trust AI?

From all the misinformation that I have seen come up with AI it's going to take quite a while before I trust it.

There are already business that have all the information that you need for finding hunting areas and odds on the draws.

I am not computer savvy at all.

But how can ai help with a hunt?

Every hunting, whether duck hunting or deer hunting, has its own nuances and requires specific knowledge.

AI is not yet developed enough to provide the right advice in such areas.

Not me.

I have seen so much stuff that is absolutely wrong, that I wouldn't even consider it at this point.

I'm really quite fond of reality, for some reason.

If you are logged on to this site you already have more information from real people than AI can generate. You still have to sort it out yourself to see what applies to you.

I’ve been using A1 steak sauce for probably 50 years. Oh, wait a minute, you were asking about AI, sorry disregard.

I would suspect a majority of AH is too old to learn to really utilize AI. I have not used it for hunting. For African hunting I can’t see the value. For planning a DIY hunt in US and researching draw odds I think it could be extremely valuable. Use it as a search engine to jump forward a few steps. Then you can research and verify the information yourself. I wouldn’t trust it blindly because there is misinformation. However, there is also a lot of misinformation presented on AH. You need to be able to read between lines and verify information here too.

I used Chat GP or whatever and I got a lengthy response …..

I’ve never done it before but I asked some hunting questions to Microsoft Copilot. I asked what is difference in hunting South Africa vs Namibia? Then what is difference of hunting Tanzania va Zambia? Then which is better country to hunt buffalo. It summarizes it pretty well and compares a several topics. Interesting it pulls from AH as a source as well in all questions, so it can pull our inaccuracies as well. Hopefully AI knows to exclude Ontario Hunter as a source too.

I hunt when I can… doesn’t matter if a cold front is moving in or not… doesn’t matter what the moon phase is… doesnt matter what the barometer reads… whether it rained last night or is supposed to rain tomorrow… etc…

I fully understand how a wide variety of things can impact the probability of hunting success.. and how you could feed AI all of the relevant data points and let it do predictive analysis and tell you the best place to be at the best time etc etc… but for me it does t matter…

If I’ve got the time and ability to be in the woods, I am there… if I don’t have the time and ability, I’m not… it’s really that simple for me… doesn’t matter what the conditions are or the probability of success is…

I started programming software for the Internet in 1995. There were only a handful of us back then. I sold my company last year. I only mention this so you will understand the level of experience I have when I tell you:

1. AI is at best a parrot of information that’s already on the Internet. At worst it is a moron (Siri for instance) and can’t even do that correctly.

2. Most of what is on the Internet is either incomplete or even worse totally wrong. This is where AI is getting its knowledge.

Of course if you say anything long enough and loud enough it becomes fact. And of course the hoppleheads (99% of the population) believe everything they see on the Internet and then share it with other hoppeheads over and over and over and over at which point AI takes it as fact.

I'm a manufacturing engineer and have been using AI for over two decades.

"Trust" = Expectation for AI to do everything including self-audit (maybe even turn into a T-1000?).
"Understand" = AI works with me (highly laborious task? AI does that, whilst I do what AI cannot which are tasks that require specific niche skills).

Checking the highly laborious tasks that the AI does is both quick & simple in comparison to physically doing the highly laborious tasks.

I have used it to write letters asking for leasing hunting land as well as the actual lease agreement. I still have to proof read and add/change a few things, but it is incredibly fast and accurate.

I have no idea the shipping cost from here to Costa Rica. I can do my research on shipping and get back with you later today.

I didn't see your request re: ship co’s. My last shipment was 2023. Quotes from SBS Logistics ($1,198), Badger Cargo ($1,184 - used them) & AHG Trophy Shippers ($1,746). AHG owner's an asshole so wouldn't have used him anyway. Eastern Cape - Houston, TX, so your mileage may vary. NEVER use Karl Human Taxidermy aka Wild Africa Taxidermy on Eastern Cape. Trophies arrived shattered with no padding/packing material.
