Another great adventure from the Congolese jungle

I can wait to share the pictures of the last safari in the jungle... We had fun and success; bongo, sitatunga, blue duiker and black fronted duiker.
The black fronted duiker (Cephalophus nigrifons) is one of the most difficult to observe in the wild and of course very difficult to get. This amazing critter is leaving in a nasty place, swampy, marshy area where you don't really want to go!!!! Check the hooves on the picture, it is like a sitatunga..
I also love the pictures of the sitatunga ewe, so rare to see them in a clearing.

This is a small Gabon viper, don't step on it...

Gaboon viper. Gaboon viper (Bitis gabonica), also called Gabon viper, extremely venomous but usually docile ground-dwelling snake found in tropical forests of central and western Africa. It is the heaviest venomous snake in Africa, weighing 8 kg (18 pounds), and it grows to a length of 2 metres (about 7 feet).

We came across a Gabon viper while hunting in the Cameroon forest. It seemed to be resting, after a meal, on the road, soaking up some heat. My PH asked if I’d like it. I said sure, and started to get my rifle. He said no, too close and it would make a mess. So what, then? He handed me the shooting sticks. I said “what am I supposed to do with these?” Response: “just behind the head. Hit him hard and you’ll break his neck. But you’ll have to be close to the ground. And don’t miss, because you’ll piss him off.” My response: “Are you out of your effen mind?” “Not a bit.”

So that was what we (actually, I) did. A Frenchman working for a logging company was driving by. He stopped. Watched. And said: “Ca, c’est pas intelligent”. Translation: That is not smart. You think?

Got him though!

Now, back to the Congo!

I also saw 2 rhino vipers, they are beautiful but probably more dangerous.... I did not get a picture yet...
