American Airlines ammo policy?

Does anyone know whether it’s okay to include ammo in a gun case or whether it needs to be in a separate case? Their policy document says ammo in luggage is okay, but is otherwise vague.

For domestic travel it’s ok but I’d still put ammunition in checked baggage. Here is TSA’s policy.

Put ammo in its own small locked case inside your checked luggage. I use a Pelican 1170 I believe it is.
